BREAKING: Germany’s new Chancellor slams Trump in first remarks | Evening rundown

Germany’s Chancellor slams Trump in first remarks following the election, more federal agencies rebuke Musk, and the Trump Administration conducted mass layoffs at USAID.

Today is February 23rd, and here is your evening news rundown. Before I continue, my work is not funded by billionaires or ad companies. It’s funded by you. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber today for access to exclusive lives and articles, and to support me:

  • Germany’s new Chancellor wasted no time slamming Donald Trump and Elon Musk, proclaiming Germany’s independence from America in his first speech and stating that Trump, Musk, and America are moving closer to Russia and Vladimir Putin. Germany’s Chancellor comes from the country’s Conservative Party, but did not come from the ultra nationalist party that Trump and Musk had hoped would win.

  • Elon Musk’s 5 bullet point email continues to cause chaos in the federal government as more agencies tell their employees not to comply. Tulsi Gabbard ordered the entire intelligence community to not comply as did Kristi Noem at the Department of Homeland Security and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at the Department of Health and Human Services. The deadline for employees to respond remains tomorrow evening.

  • The Trump Administration fired more than 2,000 workers at USAID today and put thousands of others on leave.

  • Vito Perillo, the 100-year-old mayor of Tinton Falls and the oldest in the U.S., passed away; a WWII veteran born in 1924.

  • According to the Vatican, Pope Francis remains in critical condition today.

  • The federal judiciary has told judges and staff to ignore Elon Musk’s email.

  • President Zelensky responded to Trump’s dictator comments stating: “Trump’s words toward me are not a compliment . . . but I am not offended. A dictator would be offended.” Zelensky further said that he would step down as President if Ukraine were to join NATO.

See you in the morning.
