The part Dumpy conveniently left out was that Taylor Swift was only booed by Eagles fans. Whereas he was booed by the entire stadium. He was even flipped off by people in his vicinity. People in attendance were posting unedited videos.

Yes, and within a half hour after Trump was booed, all trace of it was erased from YouTube and mainstream media (at least that I could find).

Nobody's talking about the new executive order for the Office of Faith to combat anti-christian sentiment and antisemitism. A government office of faith. And he installed his personal "spiritual advisor" to be the head. She espouses that the most faithful will be rewarded with prosperity in life. That's heretical. What happened to separation of church and state? Oh. DJT happened.

Besides this outrageous picking a religion for an office in a country with no STATE religion, This charlatan "Pastor' HAS NO FORMER TRAINING IN THE MINISTRY. She is the equivalent of Lauren Boebart in Congress except she at least graduated from HIGH SCHOOL without having to take a GED. She also bankrupted a few endeavors as a pastor. Fits right in with grifters and dim bulbs.

I agree with you on all fronts EXCEPT for the GED comment. Speaking as someone with a GED, I worked harder to get my GED than I ever had to in high school. In high school, I had a 3.98 GPA and was a member of the French Honor Society; National Honor Society; and a number of various clubs and activities but I never felt challenged. The GED challenged me.

I have since gone on to obtain two associate's degrees and one bachelor's degree along with additional certifications and licensure. You would never know by speaking to me that I had dropped out of high school at the age of 15 unless I told you. Belittling someone - even someone as trashy and despicable as Boebert - for how they received their education is elitist and ableist. It really isn't that much different than saying someone is lesser educated because they graduated from community college rather than a university despite achieving the same degree.

Thank you. Well said. I’ve always felt “less than” because straight out of high school I attended a 3-year Nursing School. I’ve been an RN since 1968, but because I didn’t go back to school to get my BS, I’ve never been able to call myself college educated.

I have never met a diploma nurse! Ironically, I am a registered nurse. I started with my associate's and then moved on to achieve my BSN because my employer required it.

You may not have the college degree or fancy letters to go with it, but you have so much knowledge. I would give my right arm for the opportunity to work with you. I could learn so much!

Thank you. That’s a nice compliment but I’m happily retired now after 35 years in the ER where every day was a learning experience. Even in retirement though, nursing stays with you. It really does. So, enjoy your career and be proud of your choice.

Abbie - thanks for the great comments about the GED. I do t think that most people realize how much harder it is to pass than our normal HS curriculum. I have seen so many kids just pushed through the system and graduated yet they can barely read and write. The GED is a great option especially for kids who are not challenged.

Keep up the good work.

-As you were

Kate

It's also often the only option for homeschooled and disabled students as well as adults who are now choosing to continue their education after leaving high school for various reasons (supporting families being a very common reason).

I didn't get mine because I felt I wasn't being challenged enough. I didn't have a clue about the difficulty level until I took the practice test. I got the short end of the small town mindset that would have tanked my GPA and lost me my accolades anyway so while I had the option of homeschooling, I chose what I considered, at the time, to be the easy route and took the test so I could move on with life. It was less time consuming, but more effort. It also saved me a lot of frustration because I had a lot of pent up anger over the situation and being able to get my GED and start college (even though it wasn't the one I would have chosen) allowed me to let go of that anger.

Also nobody is talking about the new SAVE act. If you took your spouses name you will not be able to vote without proper documentation which means the name on your driver's license must match your birth certificate

Expand full comment
Erin Woods's avatar

Absolutely appalling - affecting generations of women who took their husbands name. Just a sidenote: Another option is for driver's license to match passport. That doesn't make it any better - passports cost money and take time (if anyone can get them now??). More than 140 million American citizens do not possess a passport and as many as 69 million women who have taken their spouse’s name do not have a birth certificate matching their legal name (because.. why... that wasn't your name at birth!). Also, you have to present the documentation IN PERSON which ends voter registration drives. So much for that whole push to get everyone REAL IDs.

Expand full comment
Bonnie Council's avatar

So women should just stop taking their husband's name when they marry. When I divorced I took back my maiden name (which took an act of court) but I have been so happy, for so many reasons, that I did that. My personal attitude about it is, you're not his property, so why should you give up your own name? And now, with them obviously trying to keep women from voting, all the more reason to keep your given name.

There is no power held by the Executive branch to ignore the rule of order; it will be an unprecedent choice to ignore the rule of law and an unprecedented choice to destroy our democracy; never has a POTUS ignored a court order; Nixon famously had enough conscience to not do so; but he could have done so.

The rule of law should not be a burden to the President for in fact it is his duty to protect our democracy which is built on compliance with the rule of law; without that we are lost, and it will have been done by Trump and his administration.

The only power that will remain after Trump, who by ignoring the rule of law destroys a 240-year-old democracy checks and balances, will be for us to go into the streets. But the push back from POTUS will be at the level of Tiananmen Square.

Our POTUS has clearly declared war against our democracy and we the people of the United States. We are invaded. It was a bloodless coup. Collectively we chose this.

The election was like a chess game. The only sensible goal was to remove Trump from the board for he presented a clear and present danger (PROVEN TODAY); and the only move sacrificing all other was for us to LEAN IN and remove Trump by electing Harris. We failed in that last bastion to save ourselves. Now we must march.

When our democracy folds and we are no longer a free people under the Constitution which will be replaced by the dictates of Trump's administration and Project 2025 other democracies will follow. In that vein we can only hope than when we march the people of the democracies across the world will march in union with us for their future is equally compromised by our failure to keep Trump and the designs of Project 2025 out of power.
