We need to stop paying Congress. It is clear we are under a dictatorship and they are not doing their jobs. What Trump did today was unconstitutional and I would be bet Congress will not hold him accountable.

AOC is starting Impeachment proceedings because Trump illegally entered into a war with Iran without having Congress approve his unauthorized action.

I got a message saying that Ro Khanna is calling for Congress to return immediately and deal with this. If Republicans could even be bothered to come out of their hidey holes and do it, they would likely give Trump a belated vote of approval. Is it a mere majority vote which is needed?

What he did is illegal. However everything he does is illegal and unconstitutional. They gave him immunity. He believes he can do anything . I fear for what this brings next and for the people he already bombed.

Since Johnson praised him and his actions I don't think they will. He briefed the Republicans and not the Democrats. But the Middle East is used to playing the long game. The long game to Trump is overnight. We haven't heard the last of this. They backed 9/11 and have funded terrorism for decades. Trump and his ignorant, unqualified goon squad don't have a clue as to how to deal with them.

Trump wants the expanded powers of POTUS that comes with being a wartime president, as well as a wartime budget, but he needs Congress to declare war…so what does he do?

He pulls out of an agreement that restricted Iran from enriching uranium, then threatens to attack them for enriching uranium. Unexpectedly, Iran takes the high road and goes to the UN over the threats. Since Iran won’t attack, Trump gets Israel to attack Iran. Now, Trump is allowed to attack Iran under the false pretense of protecting an ally, circumventing congressional approval. He posts a message claiming peace, knowing full well that Iran will retaliate, and Congress will subsequently declare war.

Trump gets everything he wants- expanded powers, and a big budget to hide his reckless overspending, all under the guise of defending an allied nation.

It's all the fault of the certain members of the USSupreme Court, giving him immunity from any and everything as long as he calls it Official acts, which is anything and everything. The USSC members Alito, Roberts, Thomas, Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanaugh unleashed a savage beast with that decision and started the downfall of this once great country.

Disguy Ovahea's avatar

This has nothing to do with immunity. If he is responding to an imminent threat to the US or an ally, it’s within his power.

Repugs have been saying for decades that Iran had nukes, it's never been proven. Donald Trump 100% has to go to Congress before he gets us into a war that was not an imminent threat on US soil

Yeah but NOW it is, so he can declare martial law, and do all kinds of things to the American public that he deems necessary because of the threat of Iran striking the US!

Netanyahu stated that the US was going to respond to Iran’s “nuclear threat.” Israel would be the target if Iran had nuclear capability.

I couldn’t care less what Israel has to say about Iran so long as it’s Netanyahu whispering in Trump’s ear. Netanyahu and Trump are cut from the same cloth.

Israel has been afraid of that for decades and has hidden behind the Americans skirts with respect to nuclear attack by anybody else. I wonder if we will ever understand why this all came about- Israel attacking Iran when they were not under attack, and then the US coming in with way more finesse than Trump or Hegseth are capable of?

Expand full comment
Linda Kleven's avatar

I’m afraid I will never understand the benefit to the US of being a supporter of Israel outside of the massive amount of money that is made supplying them with armaments

Iran did not threaten the US? Is this a "Love id blind and lovers cannot see"?

Expand full comment
Disguy Ovahea's avatar

No, but their supposed nuclear capability while firing missiles at Israel is enough for Trump to pretend this is in defense. It’s the whole reason he had Bibi attack in the first place. Trump tried to bait Iran into a war, and Iran went to the UN like a civilized nation. This was plan B.

I do think that Bibi came first on this. But also, there's a sneaking suspicion that as much money as war can cost, it often burgeons the economy. Trump is in a PR hole about the BBB deficit and he desperately needs some economic booster. And that would be the most evil excuse of all to go to war and kill people.

Disguy Ovahea's avatar

Don’t underestimate his interest in the expanded powers of a President during a war. He also gets a fat wartime budget to obfuscate his reckless spending up until this point. ICE is almost out of money, and the DOD is way over budget.

Expand full comment
S. A. Linden's avatar

Oh I'm not. Watch the DOD rob the poor in the BBB now. Yes, I read today that ICE is almost out of money, if you can believe anything they say. I'm not sure that Trump is smart enough to think about the long term implications of expanded powers. But Miller et al are.
