Yup! Back in 2017 my 95 year old mother called the rapey felon “ a fat pig” and I said “right on mom!” She and my dad were WWII veterans and would be screaming mad today at the obvious facism taking power with consent of many Americans as well as elected republiscum in our government.

The only thing that can stop him, aside from assassination, is impeachment by the House and conviction by the Senate. And that won't happen because the Republicans in power want to stay in power. For all intents and purposes, he is King.

There are many things that legislators can do to slow him down. Both the legislative and judicial branches should be doing everything in their power to stop this, even if it’s just placing more hurdles in his way.

Expand full comment

What hurdles? Subpoenas mean nothing. Lawsuits mean nothing. Judicial rulings mean nothing. Laws mean nothing. He can just ignore them all, with no consequences! Nothing will take him out of office for 4 years, and nobody can force him to do anything. Period. If you disagree, tell me one thing that can stop him from doing anything he wants?

This doesn't surprise me, if you follow his series of EOs and flooding of the zone. He is pushing the boundaries. The real concern should be that the built in checks and balances set by the founding fathers are not being used to keep him in check. We should really ask, where is our Congress, and how will the courts react and keep him in check. I'll drop an article on the matter soon.

Update!

To hopefully get rid of his entire team. Vance is just as scary, if not scarier. He sits being best buds with Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation. Look into their book, if you haven’t yet. Then there’s Elon, who controls everything with $$. I think DJT got duped into thinking he could be a “king”, but the key players all have their own agendas to get rid of him…& replace his already absurd policies with something even scarier. I’m tired. But I’m holding onto hope that there’s way more of us than there are of them, & they know that. They should be afraid.

I think what is more infuriating for me is that somehow the opposition was not able to see this coming and better prepare for this. I think AOC had been ringing the bell only to be shut out by the Nancy Pelosi’s of the Democratic Party. I think those in collaboration with Trump are smart. There’s no denying what they have done is strategic and effective. They are flooding the zone and are attacking the constitution and governance norms in a very meticulous and strategic way. But like you said, there is hope, knowing there is many of us who oppose this power grab. The question is what are we doing about it and how do we go about it?

Expand full comment
Brittany's avatar

That’s what I keep ruminating on: what do WE do when leaders in Washington, the stacked courts, & state elected officials aren’t fighting back? Or at least not fighting back hard enough to make a difference. You’re right, it’s absolutely infuriating thinking others didn’t see this coming…or did they? Biden went right on through with a “peaceful transfer of power” & then had the nerve to give a farewell speech ringing the alarm bells of impending doom. We got handed right over to the enemy without a fight! It’s concerning & hopefully not foreshadowing how much they’re willing to actually fight for us. At the end of the day, we might just need to resort to some French Revolution type actions & burn this shit down across the country & take it back ourselves. I do fear it’s going to come down to these extreme actions. Even though there is hope, no one is going to come save us. We have to save us.

Expand full comment
Treadmill Morning Thoughts's avatar

This is a very complicated question that I think requires a lot of strategy and patience. I personally am not one for violence, despite understanding why some people might turn to burning things down. I say this because if the opposition commits act of violence, this will only trigger and enable Trump and his party to justify even more extreme measures. Measures and repercussions that I’m not even entirely sure how we would begin to address if they were to be triggered.

Expand full comment
Brittany's avatar

Oh I totally hear you on that. I’m not one for violence either. I only wonder how many people are, & when their breaking point will be. We should be ready for that uprising (honestly from either side). At this point in time, I wish we were at least meeting them with the same energy they are giving us. We need to keep toe to toe with them or there will be an even bigger imbalance of power. We need to be ready when that scale tips. This is all so difficult & I truly wish there was a clear path on what to do & how to do it the right way. I can’t shake the feeling that our hand may be forced one way wether we like it or not. I’m just making sure I have a concurrent plan in place while also continuing my daily living & trying to find joy & keep hope, while also helping where I can ☺️

What scares me more is Vance taking his place . Hard to tell if this was the plan all along - he makes them kick him out or he steps down/dies so Vance takes over. Vance is younger and smarter and he is also Thiel’s and the tech billionaires’ man. They all subscribe to Yarvin’s Dark Enlightenment philosophy that they already appear to be carrying out with Musk. We are in trouble no matter what if Congress does not get the message and start limiting some of this power. But if Vance becomes president, he will carry out his benefactor’s bidding, and it will be terrifying.

I totally agree with you on this. I think once that happens, Vance in charge, we are done! So what's the answer? Congress needs to grow a pair, push back on his demands. Keep him in check. DO THEIR JOB!

Expand full comment
Treadmill Morning Thoughts's avatar

I agree. There’s just something about Vance that is very untrustworthy. There’s more to the man that meets the eye, and I fear that his poor wife is suffering the effects of his choices. with Trump, at least we know what he thinks because he’s rather vocal about it. The big difference between his first tremendous one, is the team he has behind him. It goes to show that great strategy planning has been laid out in order for them to roll out their new agenda. Trump is very problematic, and he is very clearly part of the issue. But he is only a face, the real architects are behind him and that’s the scary part. Because they’ve carefully select advance to be vice president.

Melinda Edwards, Pharm.D.'s avatar

Yep, yep, yep! Taking advantage of how the Republican Party has pledged fealty to Trump (and billionaires). If Dark Enlightenment comes to pass, I don’t think having a legislative and judiciary branch is necessarily in the plan. Republicans are being used/played and even this sycophantic behavior isn’t enough for self preservation in an anti-democratic authoritarian govt in which the leader holds all of the power.

When calling the senators/reps every day, all of us need to bring up this Dark Enlightenment/Nrx ideology, point out Vance and Musk’s connection to it, and ask them to read up about it and figure out what their role as legislators is (there isn’t one) and then to start working with each other - realize there is safety in numbers and that currently, they have made themselves very weak, but if they stand up to this and stop playing a political game in which they are being used and manipulated, they can get their share of the power back and maybe save our democracy.

I think it is going to take many of us calling daily with this directive for them to take it seriously.
