As Donald Trump marks his first 100 days back in office, a fresh battle with corporate America has erupted — this time with Amazon. The Trump White House lashed out Tuesday after reports revealed that Amazon is planning to highlight the cost of Trump’s tariffs directly alongside product prices on its platform.

According to a report from Punchbowl News, Amazon will soon show consumers exactly how much of an item's price comes from tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. The tariff amount will be displayed next to the product's total price at checkout, adding new transparency for shoppers — and new tension with Washington.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt quickly slammed the move, calling it "a hostile and political act by Amazon."
"This is an obvious attempt to undermine the President’s America First economic agenda," Leavitt told reporters. "Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?"
She went on to encourage Americans to support domestic manufacturing, saying, "This is another reason why Americans should buy American."
Shares of Amazon, founded by Jeff Bezos — a frequent Trump critic — fell more than 2% in premarket trading after the controversy erupted.
The move from Amazon comes as Trump doubles down on a tough trade policy in his second term, arguing that tariffs on foreign goods will protect American industries and workers. But critics warn the costs are often passed directly to consumers — a reality Amazon’s new pricing display could make far more visible.
It remains unclear exactly when Amazon plans to roll out the changes, but sources suggest the feature could go live within weeks, setting the stage for a broader showdown between the White House and one of America's most powerful corporations.
