The White House and top Trump Administration officials are in full-blown gaslight mode over what may be the most staggering national security blunder in recent memory—and they’re betting on the public being too distracted or too cynical to care.
Unlike mainstream media, I am not afraid to tell you the truth and hold the Administration accountable in pursuit of the truth. I cannot do this work without your support. Yesterday, The Atlantic published a bombshell by Jeffrey Goldberg revealing that he—a journalist—was included in an email chain discussing potential U.S. strikes in Yemen. Yes, you read that right. A member of the press was looped into sensitive conversations about military action. This wasn’t a leak or off-the-record briefing. It was a thread.
Instead of grappling with the gravity of that breach, Trump allies are scrambling to dismiss it as a non-story. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth attacked the reporter stating, in part that they were: “talking about a deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who has made a profession of peddling hoaxes.”
Meanwhile Karoline Leavitt flatly denied any wrongdoing—claiming no “war plans” were discussed, no classified material was shared, and that the White House Counsel’s Office had signed off on the use of these communication channels.
That’s not reassurance. That’s a red flag.
Critics—including national security experts from both parties—have pointed out what’s obvious to anyone paying attention: this is a coordinated effort to downplay a dangerous breach of protocol, gaslight the public, and avoid any form of accountability. Whether or not classified material was technically included misses the point entirely. The idea that a journalist was casually included in internal deliberations about possible military action is stunning—and dangerous.
This isn’t about partisanship. It’s about basic competence and responsibility. If the White House is treating military deliberations like a group chat, what else are they being cavalier about?
If this had happened under any other administration, Republicans would be demanding investigations, resignations, and possibly criminal charges. Instead, we're watching a masterclass in distraction, denial, and deflection.
Don’t let them gaslight you. The stakes are too high.
If their mouths are open, they are lying. It’s all they do. If you’re looking for honesty out of this regime, you’re not ever going to find it.
I would be just as outraged if it had been Biden's administration to do this, or anyone else's. It's not about sides, it's about competency.
