Are we surprised? Not for a second. It's why I turned them off on election night, and get my news here.

I appreciate you writing this article and pointing out the misinformation. This is why I follow and subscribe. Thank you for your honest work.

Didn’t watch. Thanks for the clarification. Have stopped watching all mainstream media.

Me too. Just get my information from Aaron

Yes big time manipulation! Shame on the Media!

CBS is scared of Trump and being sued for telling the truth. 🙄

Gigi's avatar

CBS and the other media news should stop being afraid of being sued for telling the truth, as they are supposed to tell the news, period. Let Trump sue, and then counter sue him for his lies and defamation, and he will lose because he had no evidence...his lies are made up as he goes. ABC should never. Has paid $25M to settle the frivolous lawsuit!! He is a rapist, that why he lost his case against Jean E.Carrill twice!!! Trump should have had to settle his debt to Jean before he could be sworn into office. We have a Rapist, Convicted Felon, TRAITOR in the White House. He didn't pay Jean E. Carroll and yet, getting $25M for suing for defamation, this is so fucking ridiculous and a joke on our court system. Trump has made a mockery of this country, the American country he is destroying quickly.

I couldn’t even make myself watch it. Needed to avoid nightmares!

There’s lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Any time you see a graph check the X and Y axis. Anytime you hear a poll result check the demographics. Figure out what someone’s saying presupposes and question those beliefs. Ask for receipts. Check receipts. Use reliable sources only. Actually we need an updated list of reliable sources these days that landscape is rapidly evolving (devolving).

Diane Lee's avatar

Also be aware of the size of the polling group. Some polls only use a very small amount of people yet make the poll look like some major national poll.

Haley B's avatar

I don’t have a problem with the sample size here. 100 isn’t that low for a poll like this. That’s because of how truly powerful randomization is. Every poll is different but there is a formula for sample size. I just don’t have enough information to plug numbers into the formula.

The problem is that it wasn’t a random sample. People who watched the speech is not a good representation for the population as a whole. It’s going to lean very hard towards Trump supporters. So much so that those numbers might be a bad result for Trump.

Haley B's avatar

But I am straying too far from my areas of expertise. I am pretty good at statistics but I’m not even close to an expert in political polling.

TL/DR: Keep an eye out for any thing that limits the randomness of a poll.

I understood immediately. I chose not to put my hand in the blender and watched a movie.

😂 That's a perfect metaphor for how painful it would have been to watch!

Many Dems, like myself, refuse to watch such fabricated, lying presentations. Agree with your take on skewed #’s.

Also call it a conspiracy theory if you want. I don’t believe he won, and certainly didn’t win the popular vote.. I live in Erie and when I telllllll you the signs for Kamala were everywhere they were everywhere. I also attended her rally where thousand of people were not able to make it in, it was packed.. my city is very important if you win or lose in my state.. I don’t believe our city turned red.. but nonetheless no way to prove it

Tiffany's avatar

Totally agreed. He lost. And I'm pissed Kamala/Biden didn't fight to prove it.

Laurie's avatar

Well, you have to have proof and who knows what Elon and his baby hackers were able to do

I watched it. All I heard were statements made that were already debunked. And a lot of shade directed at the Democrats. He did not say how he would fix the economy. The Republicans up and down applauding, even about stuff that was not true. Was sickening to see the sycophants who are our elected officials. I applaud Rep Al Green for standing up to Trump. There was no clear plan for the country. My takeaway was that it was just a way to stroke his ego. He had no real message. He just wanted the cameras and applause.

Kat Hudy's avatar

Exactly right. I forced myself to watch it too. I wanted to actually study him, and see how easily & how many times he could lie, and with such determined emphasis. It was really surreal how many times he would lie and swear to God it was true. Then watching all his cult puppets clapping over & over again, like he was the best thing since mother’s milk. After awhile it was futile & exhausting just to hear his voice. As far as Vance goes, that man is as evil as it gets. Just his evil eye on Al Green and other times too, made my skin, crawl. I have to say I will probably never watch Trump or Vance speak again. The only thing that was good about it was the fact that the Dems refused to stand up and clap for Trump. Lord, that really got to him! It was a joy to see! (I actually lost track of the many times he lied) Sorry folks. I couldn’t keep track!

Craig Spratt's avatar

Well, have to watch out for Vance. Somehow if Trump is removed from office the Vance takes his place. He’s not as dim as Trump, but more devious.

John H's avatar

Excellent observations. I decided not to watch the speech mostly because I can’t spend that kind of time listening to a man with his mouth full of marbles speaking at a sixth grade level.
