If there is anything obvious about the ICE increase request, I point them back to Martin Niemoller's famous quote: "First they came for the socialists/communists . . . "(versions vary)

If they are going to do their ugly job and get rid of the immigrants, why do we need them later? Who are they coming for anyway?

Isnt Fetterman a cancer survivor? Will it affect his attitude towards health care reductions and research?

As far as I know he had a stroke that caused him to take a leave from his duties for awhile. As a retired RN who was a Rehab nurse years ago, some cognitive and behavioral problems can remain after a stroke, even though motor skills return for everyday tasks. I have wondered about Fetterman’s seeming “personality “ changes and reversals of support for progressive policies that he supported during his election campaign. As long as he votes along with fellow Democrats I wouldn’t have a problem, but this horrendous time in our history calls for aggressive resistance against everything the magat/ fascist republicans throw at our country.

I recall his stroke happened during the 2024 election campaign, and everyone (Dems) rallied around and protected him from being disqualified for a health-related issue. During his recovery, he participated in a debate with Oz where he struggled a bit with some words. Then, after he won and was sworn in as a Senator, he went through a clinical depression that he took some time away from his duties to deal with. After that he seemed to have a personality change of some sort or we were just seeing the real Fetterman we didn't see prior.

No, he had a stroke, and his brain hasn't recovered and he's relapsed into some kind of brain fog where he thinks he's a Republican.

I LOVE THIS WOMAN! She has been "for the people" during her whole time in the senate and is indefatigable champion of the little guy. She also, having been a teacher, explains things in ways that everyone can understand. I had the great pleasure of speaking with her outside a diner in Arlington, and she listens, she laughs and she rolls up her sleeves. Proud that MA elected her and continues to support her.

To be fair, Warren has done everything she possibly can. She is currently ranked Progressive punch's #1 most progressive senator and I don't think she's been out of the top 5 in all the years I've been checking this weekly. (By contrast, Bernie has never cracked the top ten. Some people do more than talk — they deliver.)

Yes, some changes were made:

https://www.thewrap.com/trump-budget-bill-ai-provision-ban-state-regulation/

June 30, 2025 — With the AI policy world watching Congress closely, here’s the latest on the federal budget bill and its proposed 10-year moratorium on state AI laws.

As of Sunday night, Republican leaders in the Senate had offered a compromise to members of their party who objected to the moratorium. The new language decreases the moratorium on state AI laws from 10 years to 5 years and carves out exceptions for state laws that protect minors and the image, likeness, or voice of an individual.

The Hill reported late Sunday night:

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said Sunday that she reached a deal with Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on new text for a provision in President Trump’s sweeping tax package that seeks to bar states from regulating artificial intelligence (AI).

The updated text would enact a “temporary pause,” banning states from regulating AI for five years if they want access to $500 million in AI infrastructure and deployment funding included in the bill. The original provision, which Blackburn opposed, sought to limit state legislation for a 10-year period.

It also includes new exemptions for state laws seeking to regulate unfair or deceptive practices, children’s online safety, child sexual abuse material and publicity rights.
