Crappy comment, you maybe want to rethink how this sounds. From the minute Iran became an issue and rockets launched my kids looked up the laws and we all realized a draft no longer really applied to kids in college and one must lose a child to a current war before the others couldn’t be drafted so I’d have to watch two of mine plus my adopted foster son leave because I have younger boys and girls so our family doesn’t meet any of the exceptions. No one’s family votes expecting to sacrifice their own children. Don’t be a jerk and I’m sure these families have to consider forever now whether or not early warning could have saved their kids.
For me the answer is No, early warning of a war or collapse of economy couldn’t even help us because there’s no where we could all go, no country for my kids to return to if they flee a draft.
Yeah it’s not fair that Thousands have lost their livelihoods, their children and wives husbands due to Politics. You are right it’s not fair!!! Locked up for life in a foreign country just bc of their lack of legal papers! And many hundreds more ppl are going to die bc of Politics. Don’t say if your not here.
It’s not fair and I do hope no one tells the families this obvious they have to now live with that the changes will and has now affected their children. RIP to these girls. I hope all their bodies at least be found and put at peace.

I just got an email from our local Free Press movement. It's having an open house for one entire evening at someone's literal house, which is in a borderline economic neighborhood. They will have some refreshments, but are inviting potluck additions.
I only mention this because it's an example of what we all need to be doing right now: going local, and even underground in our resistance.

It's a real shame Trump has cut back weather services like NOAA to skeletons. The 32 deaths probably wouldn't be that high with earlier warning. MAGA Barbie was just on local news saying FEMA was already in area to help and she was at the whim of Gov Abbott (Freewheelin Greg). Abbott and Trump are on same page so Trump has already approved assistance. We get floods like this every 10 yrs or so. Luckily (I guess lucky?) we've been in a bad drought the last 3-4 yrs and the lake the Guadalupe empties into was over 30 feet low. They don't think the flooding in Kerrville will even fill up the lake. I live below the dam, but we've got about 2-3" rain today. This is the 5th 100 yr flood since 1998. lol
The weather forecasters can’t accurately forecast without help from NOAA. I absolutely believe that important cuts to this org is why this wasn’t forecasted in Texas and in Tahoe.
The administration bulldozed a vital organization that is required to keep people safe and report rapidly changing weather conditions. This is the administrations fault. Period.
Drumpf caused all of this by his dismantlement of the government agencies. Republicans are responsible for this. And yet blame others instead of themselves.
The cuts certainly could not have helped! Offices had to be closed, overnight coverage was lost, fewer weather balloons (used in predicting the weather) are now being launched.
Dear Maria K. While 56% of registered voters in Texas voted for Trump, 42.5% voted for Harris. Right now, we have 27 people confirmed dead and another 27 little girls aged 8-9 years old who were swept away from their Summer camp in the floodwaters. Those little girls are unaccounted for and are presumed dead. So, while it might be gratifying for you or others to point fingers and politicize this and say “we told you so,” concerning the politics of it all, that's incredibly sad and reprehensible. These kids were from all across the state and they, like many others here didn't have shit to do with any of it, what’s happened politically, or otherwise. Do I know how the dead people voted? No. Do I know who these girls' parents voted for? No. But I can still hate what's happened, be sad, be mad, and even complain.
I live in Western North Carolina, where we still have people living in trailers after Hurricane Helene, which took place in September 2024 and, among other things, resulted in approximately 249 fatalities. We are currently being punished by the Trump administration for electing a Democrat governor by having our FEMA aid cut off. 47% of our state voted for Harris too - and I was one of them and I take zero comfort in that. Because that doesn't change the fact that our state is in deep shite thanks to a bunch of religious jerks and MAGA fanatics.
I'll tell you the same thing I tell people about other states in the same predicament - get out of there if you can, as soon as you can. Texas is even worse off than NC - your governor is a flipping fascist who wants to put razor wire back across the river to torture immigrants. Texas Republicans are too big, too loud, too homophobic, xenophobic, sexist, and pro-gun. They have given your state a thoroughly bad reputation - that means, unfortunately, that people like you will suffer more because other states and other countries will be less inclined to come to your aid, when shit hits the fan.
There is zero doubt in my mind that this latest tragedy will somehow get blamed on the state liberals, and then everything will go back to its hateful ways. I know what I say is spiteful, mean, and cruel - and I stand by it, because that is the kind of world we are living in. Get out of that hellhole ASAP. Out of the whole cursed country, if you can. Find a normal safe place to live for yourself and your kids. Texas is not it.
Here is how I see it. If everyone who is working for positive change(s) gives up and runs away, then what? While that might be the easier option for some, there are so many like-minded people here (both citizens and politicians) who are committed to working on various things that will help to make the state even more democratic. When 42.5% of TX voters are blue, and only 56% are red, that goal is far from unattainable. There were 64 different peaceful protests across the state on June 14th. Some places had 10,000 to 20,000 people of all races, backgrounds, stories, ages, and histories. But all standing together for the same thing. While there are certainly things here that I don't like or agree with, especially these days, I love Texas and it's my home. That in itself makes it worth it. Am I frustrated, mad, and sad about where we are as a nation? Absolutely. But rather than let it consume me and spew my anger and intolerance at others online, especially when referring to dead children who just happened to be Texans, I choose other options that are more productive and useful. Regarding your statement “I know what I say is spiteful, mean, and cruel - and I stand by it, because that is the kind of world we are living in,” I don't see how that is helpful, to you or anyone else but you're entitled to feel or think that.
Lastly, “normal” and “safe” are subjective. Ones idea of these things may not be someone else's.
I do sincerely hope you find peace in all of this madness. Because we are all in this together. Take care. 💙

While in grad school in the late 90s in San Marcos, TX, I lived in a very nice mobile home park with a ton of fellow students around me. The park was located in a 100 year flood zone less than a mile from the SM River. My next door neighbor and I were studying on a Saturday afternoon when we noticed water rising fast in my yard. We grabbed 2 pet carriers and stuffed my dogs in one and her cats in the other. When we stepped off of the porch, the water was chest-high on me. I am 5’11” tall, neighbor was 5’2”. When I tell you how hard it was to walk out of that water with 2 pet carriers and a hysterical neighbor holding on to me…it was horrible. We were sooooo lucky. But, losing children…my heart is broken in a million pieces.
FYI: The flooding in San Marcos was in October of 1998. Our park was located less than a mile from the confluence of the Blanco River and the San Marcos River. My parents lived higher up near the Devil’s Backbone (Hill Country). They met us at the Hays County Courthouse and we spent the night at their house not knowing what we would be facing the next day. I was lucky, my neighbor lost her car and her home. I’ll never forget.
I live in New Braunfels. 98 I was living on the Comal River. If you ever floated the Comal we lived between the 1st and 2nd exit where the large concrete bulkhead was. From the bulkhead you have to walk 45 ft high on stairs to actually get in the backyard. The water almost came over the wall. I watched houses float by. My daughter and sister lived in a trailer park on the southside. A small creek which normally was dry called the Dry Comal was 1/4 mile away. The had flood water that was 10 ft high fill the trailer homes to the ceilings. They called it a 100 yr flood. Then again in 2002 we had another 100 yr flood, and finally in 2012 we had the last 100 yr flood until now. Now we have four (4) 100 yr floods in less than 20 yrs. LOL
Eric, I remember all the destruction in New Braunfels in 98, and the videos of houses floating down the river! It was terrible. NB is my favorite town in Texas. Our family went to Naeglin’s Bakery every Saturday for years, and we loved the Huisache Cafe (Grill). I was born in Luling and loved never missed Wurstfest and Schlitterbahn. Do you know if Abbott included Comal and Hays Counties in the emergency declaration today?
My mom and I both went to Camp Mystic when we were kids. Our hearts are with the Eastland family who lost their father, as well as the families of the missing and confirmed dead campers.💔 Truly a heartbreaking tragedy.
Don’t be stupid. The fact that he fired all of the weather scientists is indisputable. The fact that weathermen themselves said they can’t do their jobs because of it is 100% on Donald Trump’s conscience. Too bad he doesn’t have one.

Terrible, think of those little kids.
One can’t think of this without wanting to do something.

Didn’t they defund noaa?

They made cuts and fired people.
Sure did!
Maybe that's the best question to ask any Texan who yawps about the NWS.

Such a horrible day for those families! I would not be surprised if cuts to National Weather service by DOGE was why warning didn’t come sooner.
Exactly he can’t blame them. What next they’re going to blame god because only he controls everything and they can’t get rid of him.
He will blame the Dems...just like they did for those disastrous
hurricanes that swept through the south. Apparently the Dems
can control the weather. Who knew?
Sickening and disgusting to hell with people lives

Probably not. I’m in CA and I’m not holding my breath for any federal help.
If it was a blue state he wouldn’t do a damn thing but he loves That Governor Abbott
Unfortunately for us, Abbott doesn’t give a chicken-fried turd about the people of our state. Look no further than the Uvalde tragedy for proof.
That man and many in Texas politics have sold their souls down the river.
Except for Jasmine at least she cares
Another Christian phony.

Wasn't there cuts in staff and weather forecasting programs due to DOGE ?
Yes. Meidas Touch his a more thorough explanation of all this.
Just horrific, unimaginable that poeple voted for this.
djt stopped Noaa and by doing that he has put all of us in danger and doesn't care. You can't blame local weather they have NO INFORMATION. BLAME djt.
My mom and I both went to Camp Mystic when we were kids. Our hearts are with the Eastland family who lost their father, as well as the families of the missing and confirmed dead campers.💔 Truly a heartbreaking tragedy.
So the fired weather forecasters are to blame?
What is next? "It is Biden's fault"?
And here was me thinking that the orange faced one controlled "weather" with a stroke of his Sharpie Pen.
Or his divine being./s
Don’t be stupid. The fact that he fired all of the weather scientists is indisputable. The fact that weathermen themselves said they can’t do their jobs because of it is 100% on Donald Trump’s conscience. Too bad he doesn’t have one.
