In a sense he probably did. There is a Vanity Fair article from July 6, 2023 entitled, "How a “Whitelash” Took America From Barack Obama to Donald Trump."

Race underscores every election now because roughly 1/3 of Americans believe in a white Jesus. Here's a book you can obtain to learn all about it:

The Religion of Whiteness: How Racism Distorts Christian Faith

"Recent years have seen a growing recognition of the role that White Christian Nationalism plays in American society. As White Christian Nationalism has become a major force, and as racial and religious attitudes become increasingly aligned among whites--for example, the more likely you are to say that the decline of white people as a share of the population is "bad for society," the more likely you are to believe the government should support religious values--it has become reasonable to wonder which of the adjectives in the phrase "White Christian Nationalism" takes precedence.

In this book, Michael O. Emerson and Glenn E. Bracey II respond definitively: the answer is "white." The majority of white Christians in America, they argue, are believers in a "Religion of Whiteness" that shapes their faith, their politics, and more. The Religion of Whiteness, they argue, raises the perpetuation of racial inequality to a level of spiritual commitment that rivals followers' commitment to Christianity itself. This religion has its own unique beliefs, practices, sacred symbols, and organizations. What is more, this religion affects more than just churches. It drives the nation's politics, divides families, and is especially harmful to communities of color.

Using national survey data, in-depth interviews, and focus group results gathered over several years, Emerson and Bracey show how the Religion of Whiteness shapes the practice of Christianity for millions of Americans."

Or you can read this article about how racist crap still exists openly in some areas of the country:

As a white American, having recently moved to the southeast from Colorado, I’m living in Georgetown SC now. It’s very interesting—as Black Americans seem to be the majority here in Georgetown —to be the minority. Have only met one very racist hateful black woman here. Everyone else has been so kind and friendly 🕊✌️💕

Can you hold space for the following comment? Apologies if it hits uncomfortably.

Racism exists only where the ruling class oppress the minorities. I want to point out that what you've seen is a trauma reaction to years of abuse and oppression from white people; it is not racism. Only the colonisers can be racist. The POC are defending themselves. Calling a black person racist is like calling the little kid who finally punches back after the big bully beats them all year a bully. They weren't a bully. They were reacting to bullying.

As a white person who lived in the south for years and then lived in Colorado for 18 years (Castle Rock, Aurora, unincorporated Denver County) I've seen both sides. I grew up in a racist family. I had my grandfather tell me that, "yes, black people will go to heaven, but they'll have their own little corner of heaven." He seriously believed that.

In college in Kentucky both my friend and I both wanted to date the same black girl, but as my friend said, "Can you imagine what the townies would do to us if they caught us with a black girl?" (circa 1970 in a religious institution)

I now attend a church that is 95% queer. I'm one of only a handful of straight people. Want to know about religious persecution as well as personal persecution, they've seen that. As one told me recently, "I guess it's easier to be white and queer than it is to be black. We can sometimes hide being queer, but black is out there for everybody to see."

My experience is I've met wonderful queer people and I've met a few I don't want to be around. I've met wonderful black people and a few I don't want to be around. I've met a many white people and a whole lot of them I don't want to be around because they practice, sometimes unwittingly, what I grew up with. My family could handle me being friends with black people but when I made friends with gay people I had gone a step too far. I now have more in common with my wife's family and no longer visit my family.

Bottom line is that people aren't good because their white or black or queer. Neither are they bad for those reasons. How we are raised and how we approach the world and treat other people determine our character.

I suspect you may not have met "one very racist hateful black woman." Instead you met someone who isn't very likable because of how she spoke or treated you.

P.S. I bet the humidity in SC is knocking your socks off right now!! :)

Kent Cooper's avatar

You didn't say the second racist black woman. Was the one you met white?

Black racists can be found, but white racists are like bugs in summertime splattering on your windshield no matter how often you try to wash them off. I've met them in the pulpits of white churches, in businesses where I worked (one Fortune 500 Company had a way of secretly marking applications to identify minority candidates), on the streets---my gosh, they are everywhere--and in recent years they are like cicada bugs arising after a 17 year hiatus. The political climate is just perfect for them right now.

Anyway, enjoy the humidity. If it's not enough move to Mobile, Alabama my hometown, the wettest metropolitan area in the lower 48. :)

So if ICE is using Medicaid, SS, and tax records then they aren’t going after undocumented. They are targeting people here legally!

Expand full comment
TrashPandaParty's avatar

Undocumented immigrants filed taxes. They were given a Tax ID number to file with, told it would help them gain legal status, and were promised that their information would not be used against them. That's how they paid in 64 billion in taxes last year. You are right about the Medicaid/Medicare and SS though.

Expand full comment
Terry's avatar

Good God. Im sorry. Yes, they file taxes. I was thinking file for Medicare and SS, even though I was typing taxes. Jesus, I should stop posting late at night when my brain switches to pause....lol I honestly was not thinking as I was typing. They use the ITIN number they're given. They're not allowed to receive SS or Medicare. 🤦‍♀️

Expand full comment
TrashPandaParty's avatar

Pretty much everything I said lol You can delete previous comments. ITIN means Individual Tax Identification Number, so Tax ID number. The 64 billion was what I read undocumented immigrants paid in federal income tax filings, not including medicaid, SS or local/state taxes. Anyway, just wanted to clear up any confusion with my post. Have a good one.

No. Immigrants are given ITIN numbers which is formatted like a SS number. They use those numbers like we use our SS numbers when they get a job. The job uses that number to take taxes, Medicare and SS out of their paycheck. That's how they pay taxes. Yearly taxes paid by immigrants, whether legal or not, total $9B. I've never heard of any immigrant filing for taxes without a SS number. Do you have a source for that? I'd also love to know how trump plans on recouping this lost revenue from immigrants.

On a browser, you can't report those spam accounts either. So there's that, too. I also don't have dots up top. I have them at the bottom. Speaking of ICE and masks to "protect THEIR safety," I'd like to know a whole lot more about where are they getting these people? With the enlargement of the budget, unjustifiably so, who are they hiring? What are their credentials?

Basically, who ARE these people who are intimidating Americans and kidnapping people w/o due process? Americans deserve to know. Just as in Nazi Germany, the kid arresting you for "interfering" because you are defending an innocent person by having their back . . . that ICE guy or gal could be your neighbor's kid. Masked up and carrying a weapon and pepper spray.

This entire situation is patently not right nor democratic.
