With that, here is your evening rundown:

  • Following Donald Trump's address to Congress, Hayden Haynes, chief of staff to House Speaker Mike Johnson, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Around 11:40 p.m., Haynes allegedly backed his vehicle into a parked Capitol car. He was subsequently arrested by Capitol Police and later released with a citation to appear in court. Speaker Johnson, who has worked closely with Haynes for nearly a decade, expressed full confidence in his ability to continue leading the Speaker's office despite the incident.

  • Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick has confirmed that Americans should expect prices to rise as a result of Donald Trump’s tariffs.

  • The United States has stopped all intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

  • France to Begin Discussions on Expanding Nuclear Protection for Europe, according to Bloomberg.

  • Donald Trump has announced a one-month exemption for U.S. automakers from the newly imposed 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada. This temporary reprieve follows discussions with leaders of major automotive companies, including Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis.

  • The Trump administration has suspended the use of military aircraft for deportation flights due to high costs and inefficiencies.

  • In February, private sector employment increased by 77,000 jobs, significantly below expectations, according to the ADP National Employment Report. This slowdown in hiring precedes the upcoming official jobs report, which is anticipated to reflect similarly weak employment growth.

  • The Trump administration plans to reduce over 80,000 positions from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), aiming to return staffing levels to those of 2019. This decision follows workforce expansions during the previous administration and the implementation of the PACT Act.

  • The Trump administration is taking steps to dismiss a major emergency abortion case in Idaho, signaling one of its first significant actions on abortion policy. The Idaho emergency abortion case involves a legal challenge over whether the state's near-total abortion ban violates federal law requiring hospitals to provide emergency care, including abortions, when necessary to protect a patient's health.

  • Medicaid budget cuts are threatening to eliminate dental care coverage for adults, putting access to essential oral health services at risk.

  • U.S. Representative Sylvester Turner (D-TX) has passed away.

  • Support for same-sex marriage in the U.S. has declined to 52%, while opposition has risen to 36%, according to a YouGov/Economist poll.

See you in the morning.
