I'm Going to Make Sure Every American Knows What's in the Budget Bill — With Your Help

I’m going to be clear with you: I won’t let this budget bill get swept under the rug. Over the next 18 months — until the 2026 midterms — I’m working to make sure every American understands what was just passed into law. Here’s what we know: According to Pew Research, nearly half of Americans — 49% — oppose the bill. Only 29% support it. And 21%? They aren’t sure. That group is everything. Tens of millions of Americans don’t yet know what’s in the bill — not because they don’t care, but because they haven’t seen the facts. That’s where I come in. That’s where you come in.

I’m seeing lies already spreading. Some say the bill doesn’t cut Medicaid. Others are blaming Democrats for gutting food assistance. And still others are claiming the legislation won’t increase the deficit. None of that is true — and we can’t let it become the dominant narrative.

This isn’t about spin. This is about facts. Verified, nonpartisan facts, including from the Congressional Budget Office. Facts like these:

• The bill defunds Planned Parenthood for one year by cutting off Medicaid reimbursements to any clinic that provides abortion care — even if those services are privately funded. Over 1 million patients will lose access to vital services like STI screenings, breast cancer exams, and prenatal care.

• A third of Planned Parenthood centers are now at risk of closing, leaving vast swaths of the country without basic reproductive health care.

• It blocks a key Medicare rule that made it easier for low-income seniors to enroll in Medicare Savings Programs, forcing some to pay up to $8,340 more per year.

• Medicaid recipients will now be charged up to $35 per doctor visit. That may not sound like much to some — but for families living just above the poverty line, it means skipping care or being turned away at the door.

• The bill strips 270,000 veterans, homeless individuals, and young adults aging out of foster care of SNAP benefits.

• It eliminates affordable student loan repayment plans like SAVE, forcing borrowers into costlier options that could mean an extra $3,000 out of their pockets every year.

• It hands ICE $30 billion — tripling its budget — to expand deportation operations with little oversight.

• It creates a $51 billion tax credit to encourage donations to private school voucher programs, draining funding from public schools and especially harming rural communities.

That’s not a policy disagreement. That’s a full-blown assault on vulnerable Americans — seniors, students, women, low-income families, veterans, and children.

Now that the bill has passed, I’ve shifted my focus to making sure every voter — in red states, blue states, and everything in between — knows exactly what’s in it and who supported it. But to do that, I need to build something bigger. A sustained, independent, truth-telling effort that can compete with the massive misinformation machine already spinning.

This isn’t theoretical. Here’s a real example: Rep. David Valadao of California’s 22nd district — a district with one of the highest numbers of Medicaid recipients in the country — told his constituents just days before the vote that he would vote NO. This is his statement:

Then he voted YES. That’s the kind of betrayal that voters deserve to know about — and I intend to make sure they do.

I will do this work whether it’s comfortable or not. I will go to the places where truth has been distorted, and I’ll put the facts in front of the people. I’m going to spend the next 18 months ensuring that the truth is louder than the spin.
