Nancy Pelosi just called the Senate Dems to reject Chuck Schumers plan and capitulate. There’s a bill to fund the Govt. for a month so that a bipartisan bill can be worked out. If not, a shutdown is better than what Chuck Schumer wants them to vote yes on.
Try googling and calling them at their local offices. I did that for a number of these senators and was generally able to get through to one or another of their offices. There were a couple that just kept dropping calls.
Except... we cannot let them shut down the courts! Given that it would be up to Trusk what would be kept open or re-opened, you can be sure the courts would be sent home.
"On Thursday, federal judges delivered a one-two smackdown on the question of fired federal workers. Two back-to-back rulings by federal district courts, one on the West Coast and one on the East, found that the administration’s mass firing of probationary workers across numerous different agencies was illegal. And both ordered the federal government to immediately rehire all of those workers." from The Status Kuo
I've been calling and writing my Senators this week, but learning about implications for the courts, I have changed my mind. It is a sad situation, but we need justice.
So help me understand, if Schumer and the others who want to vote yes are right, why haven’t they been able to convince the other Dem senators and the leading independent journalists who are urging a no vote?
Aaron, I love the information you present, I feel somewhat put off by the repeated reminders on your own approach to journalism and virtuosity relative to legacy media. It feels like a continuous sales pitch with every email I get from you. There's the old saying in writing, show don't tell, and I personally would far prefer the approach of having clearly well thought out reporting, which you do very well, rather than repeated reminders of why we should trust you more than others. Just a friendly piece of feedback as someone who follows you.
You lost me with offering a "both sides" version script. Republicans must take full responsibility for being complicit in literally destroying the government (which they never will) and dems must use their only leverage or they are showing spineless lack of leadership by not standing up for us - just giving in. Dems will get blamed for everything anyway, so they may as well fight. I thought you could see through that, but I guess not.
Even though I’m very much against the CR, I do appreciate you providing a script for it. Also a lot of these people are not answering their phones, so email and fax if you can as well!!
The first time I called, probably 6 weeks ago or so, I was able to talk to an aide. I asked about his health since he had just done something awful, can’t remember. She said he’s in good health.
Since then, no humans. I call his DC number and Philly number. At least we can usually leave a message, but it’s disappointing for sure
Yes, at least we can leave a message but I have no idea if any of the messages are being logged. There’s a lack of communication and I read that some of his staff have resigned. I’m sure his office is busy - I would just love to know he hears us and cares about us. Right now, a lot of us aren’t so sure about that.
Yes I’ve read that too. A couple resigned in spring 2024 and at least 2 this past February I think. I’ve also emailed him and get the standard bull reply. At least we’re trying. It’s pretty depressing knowing McCormick is the other senator.
The Congress websites are all the same www.lastname.senate.gov and the form to contact them is defaulted to their state but unlike local web site you can change state to your state. Attached is Fetterman's web site for DC office versus the local PA contact form.

They do not answer their calls because they have no intention on hearing what we have to say. I have left multiple voicemails without a response. Another reason why they stopped hosting town halls. They do not want to hear what we have to say because they have no intention on working for the people. Talk about fraud, waste and abuse. They are part of the fraud, waste and abuse. Most of them are as corrupt as the idiot King in the white house and his rich buddies.

You can call whomever you want at the Capitol switchboard in DC or their direct number. Also they each have a web site for their DC offices. See example below:

Thank you Aaron. I have sent messages to Schumer, even though I am from Massachusetts. Hoping that we can flood the undecided Democratic leaders with our messages. I am shocked that Schumer changed course. My hunch is that this gives us a glimpse into who has been "compromised".

Hold Schumer accountable!

Interesting but hypocritical approach from the Biden era shutdown rhetoric.
I’ve tried calling several times today. It’s dropping the call every time.
I got through about 15 min ago.
Send him a fax! 202-228-2838 can send it for free on faxzero :)
Thank you!
If you can't get through by phone (since a lot of people are probably calling right now), write. May not work - but then again, it may.
I kept hitting redial until I got through
Try googling and calling them at their local offices. I did that for a number of these senators and was generally able to get through to one or another of their offices. There were a couple that just kept dropping calls.
That’s what I did as well. Plus, I emailed him through bis website, as well as Gillibrand because she’s leaning YES as well!

Not everything shuts down and that is what people do not understand.

I feel the same. That’s why I read the bullet points for the daily rundowns, instead of watching the video. It has really helped.

Fetterman’s office is not answering. Just get 3 brief beeps and the call disconnects. Cowards.
I called this morning and was able to leave a message. The system is probably overwhelmed
Fetterman’s office has never once answered with a live person in all the times I’ve called.
The first time I called, probably 6 weeks ago or so, I was able to talk to an aide. I asked about his health since he had just done something awful, can’t remember. She said he’s in good health.

As a former unpaid Senate intern, be nice they don't make any money to take your notes.
Should we only call if we actually live in the state? Or should we just call them all and use the script?
I’m curious about this as well.
Keep calling! Tell ur friends in that state to call!
Do we need to live in said state to call? Like, how would they actually know?
You can call whomever you want at the Capitol switchboard in DC or their direct number. Also they each have a web site for their DC offices. See example below:

You can call them all -- anyone you want to call at the DC number. Also you can communicate via their comment forms.

They’re not answering though!! 😡
That's why I use the 5 Calls app which records/tracks the results.
5 calls makes it so easy, I LOVE this app.
Not aware of that.

Proud of our hometown Amy Klobucher! I emailed her a personal message and she responded quickly and was emphatically supportive!
