I think our country in the long term will be okay. I don't believe the people dying in ice centers or families being torn apart will ever get over the trauma. My grandparents were in Japanese internment camps and even with reparations paid, they never got over a lot of the trauma of being torn away from everything they owned and knew.

Exactly. The trauma being inflicted will be felt for a generation and maybe more. I’m Latino and I feel like we are being hunted right now. Scary to even go to the grocery store. Gawd help us all.

I'm so sorry. I am a meditation teacher in California prison system. Most of my guys are Latino and Black. And they are so very worried. So much compassion and love, and fear for their loved ones outside.

Take heart Brexx -- there are truly millions of us with you and for you and doing what we can, and more all the time, to end this fascist nightmare.

Thank you, Beth. I see people out fighting for us and it makes me grateful. I’ve been out protesting so much since trump was re-elected and I see lots of good white people out there. I think we need to keep reminding each other that there are millions of us out there. 💯🫶🏼🙏🏼

It is cruel. I will never understand why it is happening or the inhumanity of it. I was talking to a young man today. He said he and his parents live in the country and they mostly stay home. He is an adult, born here. His parents were not born here. He was saying that the neighbors used to go out to sporting events, not anymore. I was telling him with all sincerity “good. They need to stay home).” For their safety. Later, I thought about the mental toll it may take on them being afraid to leave (for an outing) and having to stay home for the next 3.5. years. They’ve been here for at least just over 30 years.

I HATE what is happening. May you and yours be safe.

I’m so sorry that happened to your family. I am Native, and I understand generational trauma.

Reparation cannot replace “right.”

Ours is to DO right.

Here with you.

I am so very sorry that your family had to go through that horrible experience during their lifetimes in America.

I'm so sorry for what your family went through. Yours are the voices we need to never forget.

Trauma is wired into the nervous system, and the only way to disengage it is to rewire -- with hope, with community, with kindness and compassion first of all to ourselves. It's OK to rest, it's necessary. We can't move forward without it.

We will never get over this, but we will integrate it and become better for it. If we got over it, we would forget it. And THIS time, history must not be whitewashed or diminished or revised or forgotten.

Canadians and Americans should hang their collected heads in shame, whenever the topic of Japanese internment camps surfaces

My father in law (born 1914) was a witness to our shameful past.. He lived in Vancouver near the site of the internment camp.

The only indication he was a witness to history, was a darkening of his mood, whenever the topic came up. To this day, I'm left wondering if he agreed or was repelled by the policies.

Thank you for that, cuz today was really bad. Really bad. I’m not a young person now, and the frantic pace of change at the federal level is not only exhausting to keep up with, but frankly very very scary. It’s good to know that you’re seeing positivity out there besides the No Kings rallies with millions expressing deep concern.

A 26 year old comforting a 77 year old. Reaffirms my intuition as well that there’s an idealistic passion and empathy in younger generations that will prevail. Reason for us elders to put on our shoes and raise our voices, as we are!
