F*ck the working class bill

Murder bill is what I've heard it called. If we don't stop it thousands of people will die, children, working poor, middle class, veterans...

So I concur, it's a murder bill.

I’m so over this. First time, it was AOC who was not given the position, second time, it’s Crockett not given the position. It’s starting to show a growing disdain that both parties have with putting qualified women in any position. Especially, the ones who have been some of the loudest voices and trying to make the most headway in a less traditional way. This is the problem I have with the Dems, as well as why I switched to “No Party Affiliation “. I’m so sick of the same ol’ b.s.

MaryAnnP's avatar

I completely agree with you. It's easy to see in Congressional hearings that several of the women are the ones who ask hard, pertinent questions and who speak out without cowering.

Pretty sure Crockett did not throw her hat in the ring for this position. AOC did and I hoped she'd get it but I'm also not angry Garcia got it.

No, I know. That’s why I said I’m sick of it. There’s stuff going on behind the scenes that they have no control over because of “establishment “. She even alluded to that on that segment she was on. Just like Pelosi prevented AOC from getting the votes. The Dems sometimes are not

that much different than the other party. We really have to evolve out of this two-party system, because we don’t get a lot of the people who could be more effectual in getting constituents voices heard, or getting good legislation passed, or just doing their jobs.

An Independant candidate cannot win undercpur system. Ross Perot proved it. The only way to have all parties matter is to become a parliamentary government, which the framers of our Constitution did not want.

Expand full comment
S. A. Linden's avatar

Yes, but as registered Independents we could play a major transactional role with the Dems. Just like a Progressive Party would, throwing their support behind candidates that respond to their demands. I'm sick and tired of always "giving way" to the Establishment system, i.e., conceding to them for vague promises that they never intend to keep.

Unfortunately, my red state has elected to go with a closed party primary. In fact, now they're busy trying to outlaw ranked choice voting. Ohio under the GOP is really corrupt. They are just canny about covering their crimes.

Sincerely curious. What specific structural reforms do you think could help evolve us out of the two-party system?

I don't think these powerful women are being sidelined maybe it’s more nuanced. AOC and Crockett remain critical forces—amplifying messages, shaping public opinion, and holding bad actors accountable in ways only they can. Committee leadership comes with constraints, and letting firebrands stay on offense while others take on procedural roles can actually broaden the bench, not shrink it.

The problem is that the Democrats Liberals & progressives have a hard time accepting that the our men are misogynists. A lot of people would like to throw racist in there, but I think we’ve shown we’re not racist in 2008. What we have seen is two of the most qualified candidates who were women lose against the least qualified man.

If u listen to him speak he tells you and I agree. The most important thing right now is to not pass this bill. Impeaching trump right now would get us know where. He said stopping this bill is the most important to keep people from losing health-care and medicaid , medicaire. Garcia will be a good person to fight.

AOC explained in a video. They didn't vote against it, they voted to look into it and come back to it. They got the articles and were expected to vote on it hours later. So they voted for more time. Plus those articles aren't going anywhere nothing will come of it.

Aaron I need your help. Our beloved New Orleans music teacher has been fired for being a gay man. A disgruntled parent found the obituary of his dead partner and sent it to the archdiocese who then proceeded to fire him immediately! Please help get this out. The community is reeling!

Having been a music student of outstanding music teachers when I was young,

I'm so sorry to read of this, for his students as well as for the outrageous act

and priceless...and whatever else they are is fine, but not for bigoted minded people.

Richard, I don’t know what to do. Intellectually I know these things happen but my heart knows it is wrong and I cannot sit with it! An obituary to out someone?????

Expand full comment
Richard Waddell's avatar

It is a shameful and despicable act. You said 'archdiocese' - so is this a Catholic school music teacher? Was the letter published in a local newspaper or newsletter? Was being straight part of the job description? That's a ridiculous question, and I don't ask it to be humorous but to contrast the reality with what happened. Both the students and the teacher are hurting, to be sure, and to the extent they can be comforted in this moment seems the most helpful, even Christian thing, to do.

Congressman Garcia says that maga legislation will still happen if passed….So, are democrats right NOW writing legislation to enshrine Medicare for All to be passed the first day, if we take both houses with a majority? Are all the changes that need to be made to departments that have failed, being thought out and written? Will the Equal Rights Amendment FINALLY be certified by a dem president? The Democratic Party needs to treat this like war with a plan for reconstruction in place for day one. We shall see what happens with his committee and it is a good sign that new, younger blood is representing the dems….but still.

I read that too. I have to say that’s a poor excuse. They had just shot down the first call for impeachment by Al Green. They are on the front lines of what this man is doing and they really need more time?! The Democratic Party is really shooting themselves in the proverbial foot. Their inaction is loosing them credibility and trust.
