A left leaning agenda? What happened to free speech?

Save act has very intentional wording that can and will be used to bar married women from casting a vote (married women’s last names don’t match the names on their birth certificates). We all need to be paying very close attention to whether or not that passes

Expand full comment
Heidi's avatar

I believe the only way to get around the save act, should it go into play, is to have a passport when you vote. It’s fucking ridiculous but this is where we are now in the US🤦🏻‍♀️

And the number of women who won’t be able to afford one will be staggering.

First, we got the "Real ID" mess to contend with as women if we wanted to travel by air, IN or out of the country. Now it seems after proving we're not terrorists, but citizens, we have to do it again. But THIS time we have to wrangle the passport process, wait, and pay good money for it, too. What in the actual fuck! I'm 64yrs old and at every step of the way have had to prove I'm who I say I am my WHOLE damn life. My married name IS who I am, and my birth certificate says who and where I was when I came into this world. My nationality is now being called into questioned in a world I know longer recognize. 💙💔🤬

Expand full comment
Janice Darling's avatar

hopefully you will not have to wrangle with this as it is currently aimed at anyone registering for voting, and hopefully you have been registered for years. But if you move to a new state, for example, and want to vote there, it would come into play. But bottom line, it had better be squashed in the Senate, as it is a horrible bill.

$160.00 isn't a drop in the bucket.

Expand full comment
edgepiecesfirst84's avatar

I just got one in January , and it was $180. That amount is cost prohibitive for a lot of families… especially just to vote.

When you’ve already registered to vote and proven your citizenship, and you’re now required to spend a decent amount of money and do it again… that’s crap.

This burden falls primarily on women (mainly married women), and it amounts to suppression of low income and minority voters - the group they’re trying to prevent voting.

I disagree. There are single mothers who work more than one job to pay the bills. There are older women, single, who live on a fixed income. Over or at $100 is unattainable when it comes down to car payments and insurance, utility bills, food and rent. There is no such thing as a living wage (enough to cover the cost of living, no extras), and passport fees are higher than ever. No. $180 is not a drop in the bucket. If that amount is no problem for you, then find a way to donate to an organization that helps women rise above poverty.

I won't be one but surprised if they still try to turn people away and/or ask for a birth certificate in addition to passport. Even though that's not what's supposed to happen.

Expand full comment
Janice Chapman's avatar

That still won't match a birth certificate.

Expand full comment
Heidi's avatar

There’s a reason why passports are expense. It’s because you go through a very detailed process to get one. The government has proven that you are who you say you are. It doesn’t matter if your passport and birth certificate match, that’s the whole point.

I’ll take the heat for my comment. Just know that I have long ago advocated for a woman president cuz MEN have fucked it up big time! Yup. We should have had 2 women Presidents - Hillary n Kamala by now. Geraldine was way ahead of her time in an even more male dominated country. The world need more women leaders! how are these two things even happening:

The House passed a bill to restrict district court judges from issuing nationwide injunctions. Only one Republican—Mike Turner from Ohio—sided with Democrats in opposing it. The move directly targets judges who previously blocked some of Trump’s policies.

Trump has signed an executive order aimed at the law firm Susman Godfrey, which played a key role in helping Dominion Voting Systems secure a $787 million settlement from Fox News over false claims about the 2020 election.

HOW can this even be allowed? Why is no one stepping in? Do we need to storm the capital too? I don't get it.
