Donald Trump Won't Rule Out A Recession This Year | Morning Rundown

Donald Trump will not rule out a recession this year as America faces economic turmoil, Secret Service shot a man this morning outside of the White House, and a big Supreme Court race is coming up.

Good morning! It is March 9th and here is your morning news breakdown. Quick programming note, I am going to be on a last minute, unexpected flight this evening and so my evening update will be text-based. I will also be doing a text-based paid subscriber Q&A this evening, answering as many questions in the comments as I can. Then, this week I will do a paid subscriber live on Wednesday or Thursday. With that, if you want to join either or to just support my work, please consider becoming a paid subscriber today:

  • Donald Trump, despite his earlier bold statements, did not rule out a recession when asked this morning, acknowledging a "period of transition" due to significant economic changes.

  • Trump criticized Democrats' behavior during his joint address, claiming, "There’s something wrong with them," and insisting they lost the election in a "landslide."

  • The Secret Service shot a man this morning near the White House after he allegedly brandished a firearm, prompting agents to respond. The incident occurred near a security checkpoint, leading to a temporary lockdown of the area. Officials stated that the suspect made threatening movements before being shot, and he was later taken to a hospital.

  • Israel announced it is cutting off its electricity supply to Gaza, a week after halting all goods shipments.

  • The Department of Homeland Security has started conducting polygraph tests on employees to identify potential media leakers, while Tom Homan and Kristi Noem attribute lower-than-expected ICE arrest numbers to recent leaks.

  • The Department of Agriculture has disbanded two key food safety advisory committees, the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods and the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection, sparking concerns over weakened oversight of the food supply.

The Parnas Perspective is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a paid subscriber.

  • Senate Democrats are demanding answers from FEMA over the firing of hundreds of staffers last month, criticizing the Trump administration for undermining disaster response instead of addressing constituents' concerns.

  • Donald Trump shared an article today on Truth Social written by MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk titled '“Shut up about egg prices — Trump is saving consumers millions.” The average cost of eggs in America has reached an all time high of $4.95 per dozen eggs.

  • There is a Supreme Court election upcoming in Wisconsin and Elon Musk and his associates are already spending big to promote the Republican candidate in the race. The election will be held on April 1st. I made a quick error in the video claiming that the last Supreme Court election was in 2021. It was not. It was in 2023 with Democrats taking control of the Supreme Court.

See you this evening.
