While this move is causing stress on the overall system of governance and a handle needs to be gotten on it ASAP, this is a real report from Bloomberg:

Venezuela's Violent Deaths Fall to 22-Year Low on Migration: Violent deaths dropped following years of massive migration as both criminals and victims fled: https://archive.is/JOaY9

We cannot allow this, the criminals must go home.

I think out of all of the possible deportations that they could ignore a court ruling on, this is the correct one. If these are truly gang members, they should not be here. With all that being said though, I still think this move is setting a dangerous precedent for violating future court orders.

No court order should be ignored. There are legal avenues to remove criminals. Your last sentence is correct- it sets a dangerous precedent. They are using this as a test to violate court orders. This is the move into full authoritarianism.

If anyone could just ignore the courts, then what's the point of the court in the first place? There's no discretion here.

I believe the military will because the sanctity of the country will be strong enough for the top brass to stay objective. Unfortunately as a former military wife I can tell you from experience that much of the rank and file are unreasonable ultra conservatives. I think they’re enough of the minority in decision making situations that we should be okay, but I would NOT bet my life on it.

Very much not the point. The executive obeys court orders or the court becomes powerless.

If a president can pick and choose which court orders he feels like following because “he has a good reason this time,” then the court system is a sham because it either rubber stamps the president’s whims or it becomes completely irrelevant.

If the court is a sham and orders the president doesn’t agree with (or care about) can be disregarded without consequence, then people stop turning to courts to resolve disputes. That way leads rapidly to anarchy.

Are they really gang members OR are they saying they are. I don’t believe anything that comes out of that administrations mouth. So many outrageous lies at thundering velocity has flown from those blathering slobbering greasy KFC eating lips who in their right mind could believe it? So are they gang members? I have no clue. They may not even be Venezuelan.

Here in NM they were picking up Navajos. Sorry you short earred jackasses!!! You Unwanted ICE. Navajos were here long before whitey. They will be here long after. You ICE have a quote You ICE lie like your orange god.

So are these people even from Venezuela?

Now this administration opens up Gitmo for immigrants. Is that really why? This administration needs to be there themselves. It’s for terrorists and traitors, well isn’t it.

I don’t believe anything anymore. Legacy media has failed us by drinking the Kool Aid. I’m not sure if Chuck just failed us or not but if we don’t stand up for our country, our rights and our Constitution we are totally fucked.

This regime wants a civil war. But it’s so much easier than that. Just the reverse of what Khrushchev said to JFK.

Peace Out.

Ok deport violent criminals & gang members... but send them back to their own country not a third country that puts them in prison and profits off their slave labor at the same time that Americans are paying a fee to have them locked up in this third country. None of this can be legal.

If they are Venezuelans, send them back to Venezuela Not El Salvador.

Wow Beccy… its “the law”. He continues to break the law. Lets assume though that those he deported are “assumed” guilty. They’re “suspected”. Where in any of that terminology did they stand trial? They didn’t. They said their gang members, they rounded them up and they deported them? When is it “appropriate” to speak up… what happens when they come for you? Is it okay to speak up then?

what I read was Trump Canal defy court orders and essentially do whatever he wants whenever he wants to whomever he wants and there are zero repercussions? Does that sound about right? It sounds like we live in an incredibly lawless country right now because if the President of the United States is bound by no laws, then he is operating as a dictator not as the president of United States who is an elected official.

Continue with your protests, sinking if Tesla stock, writing letters, and phoning every Rep of the house and senate. This marshmallow is about to be charred! Schumer has fully tilt the pot. There is not trust for justice with either party. Mental Health is real! I am not prepared to stop fighting. I simply understand the need to “exhale.”

I pray daily for peace and understanding. I do not impede anyone else’s belief. I want the Judicial and Legislative Branches to step in and stop giving empty words of “what could” happen. The law and constitution has been broken and violated. Protect it. No other President or person has ever stooped this low. With the things other Presidents have done, they were ostracized and held accountable. This is what “appears” so unbelievably lunatic about all of this.

Unfortunately, it’s a fight we’ll lose in the Court of Public Opinion. “Dems Fight to Have Venezuelan Gang Members Returned to US”

Expand full comment
JebW's avatar

Just coming here to say that. They picked the best order to ignore. They’ll get away with it because no one wants to argue that violent gang members should stay (although it needs to be to be confirmed that’s who was on these planes, right? Not just take their word for it!). Then they break another order and claim we let them break orders already. And we’re done.

Expand full comment
R.E.'s avatar

That’s the whole point of due process… to make sure that the people being deported are the correct people to be deported and that the deportation is done in accordance with the law.

I don’t know who was on that plane, what their connections or lack thereof might be to a gang, or what if any legal asylum claims they may have - do you? Given that they’ve already detained quite a few American citizens in these immigration round ups… do you feel comfort with “just trust us, bro” as a substitute for due process?

Also… does anyone really think immigration is where the “just trust us, bro” approach will stop? How about if they decide to imprison Trump’s enemies… which he has clearly said he wants to do. If a court issues an order saying you have to release this person, they haven’t been convicted or provided due process, are we all okay with him skipping due process because who cares what a court says “we all know they’re guilty”?

Disregarding court orders is the fastest road to anarchy.

Trump is headed for a downfall like history’s dictators. Those who cling to power, undermine democracy, and fuel extremism rarely escape unscathed. Here’s how authoritarian rulers met their fate:

Saddam Hussein – Captured, tried, and hanged (2006).

Muammar Gaddafi – Hunted down, beaten, and shot (2011).

Benito Mussolini – Executed by partisans, hung upside down in public (1945).

Adolf Hitler – Committed suicide as his empire collapsed (1945).

Nicolae Ceaușescu – Overthrown, sentenced to death, shot by firing squad (1989).

History doesn’t end well for strongmen. Whether Trump’s fate is prison, exile, or worse, his downfall is coming.
