Instead of complying CBS should have fought this regime

It seems like MSM and anybody else that has rushed to kiss the ring hasn’t learned that bullies take until there’s absolutely nothing left to give so you’re better off not giving anything at all, including a fuck.

This is complicated by the Paramount-Sundance merger. Paramount (parent of CBS) is calling shots and they want Sundance. Paramount doesn't care about constitutional rights, they want more market control. If you're looking for moral purpose, you will not find it here. These big corporations are more heartless than Trump.

They wont, the head of Paramount is trying to get government approval for a merger

BkMama227's avatar

And this merger doesn’t need to happen today. CBS isn’t losing any value and neither is Paramount. If they were smart, they’d stop kissing the ring of a bully who doesn’t give a damn and only wants to exercise control over anything and everything. They should just stop and wait for a more favorable opportunity to complete this merger. Because at this point, they keep kissing that ring, they’re not gonna have any subscribers left to watch their content. And that would be the death of both CVS and Paramount. We the People are not playing.

The House has filed articles of impeachment. Then it’s up to the Senate to try, convict, and remove. Try to google it.

Not going to happen. A democrat has filed this

Exactly. As long as the House and the Senate are dominated by the spineless Republicans, nothing will happen.

They need to reverse the presidential immunity they gave him.

jamocat's avatar

They don't need to. He's doing plenty of non-official acts that he could be tried and convicted for. If he makes it out of office alive/without negotiating a pre-emptive blanket pardon from JD Vance, I would bet you that it will be the crypto scam that he is currently running.

Expand full comment
Maria K.'s avatar

I don't think they can unless there is a case filed that goes after that specifically. Then, if they choose to take up the case in question, bypassing the lower courts, they can reverse it. But I don't think they can just.... decide it. I am happy to be proven wrong!

Do we have any legal scholars here who can help us out with this? Can the Supreme Court reverse something without a case?

The supreme court needs to reign him in before they are out of jobs or worse! The 6 that gave him immunity are to blame for all this mess!

Expand full comment
Maria K.'s avatar

I agree. But again... is there a process they can follow that would ACTUALLY WORK? So far, they have issued him how many orders - and he basically did.... zip.

So I asked Chat GPT and here's what it said:

Once the U.S. Supreme Court does make a ruling—particularly a constitutional one—it is binding and final. The Court cannot “overturn” its own decision easily, but it can revisit and reverse a prior decision in a future case. This has happened before in American history (for example, Brown v. Board of Education overturned Plessy v. Ferguson).

So if the Supreme Court rules that Trump has some form of immunity:

That ruling would stand as law unless overturned later by the Court itself in a new case, or unless limited by a constitutional amendment (which is extremely difficult).

Lower courts and all branches of government would have to follow it.

In short: Yes, the Supreme Court can overturn its own decision later—but not easily, and only in a future case or via constitutional amendment.

There's a tiny bit of hope.

Maria K.'s avatar

Ok, thank you for checking. This is much as I suspected. And while constitutional amendment AND No King Act have both been floated - there are no current legal cases going through the courts that could be picked up by SCOTUS to overturn this.

There's no point. It's mute until Democrats obtain a majority. Mike Johnson would just stifle it before it even hits the floor.

Expand full comment
jamocat's avatar

Exactly. Johnson will never, ever let an impeachment vote get to the floor, and the Republicans would never convict in the Senate. I'm also not even convinced that we'd prefer a much more disciplined and ideological Vance administration. I think that the only option is to fight him at ever turn until either the midterms come and he can be politically neutered (the most likely outcome) or he becomes unpopular enough that the Republicans select a non-MAGA leader and they basically do the same. I think he'll remain the President until Jan of 2029 or cholesterol finally does its job. Even after the midterms, getting enough votes to impeach and remove him is highly unlikely.

Supreme Court can’t impeach. Congress has to impeach. The House has to pass by a simple majority, which they won’t get because Republicans will not go against their leader. Then he would go to trial in the Senate, Chief Justice Roberts would preside over the trial and they would have to convict by two thirds vote. And the Republicans hold the majority in the Senate as well and none of them have a spine so they’re not going to uphold the constitution and go against their leader. Which is why, even though articles impeachment were brought up last week it’s not going to happen right now. This is why several other Democratic Congress people were upset about that because they know that it doesn’t have a chance of going through right now so it’s a waste of time. They also know it makes them look foolish by even attempting it because the Republicans in Congress aren’t going to do uphold the Constitution and get rid of him. This will also make the Democrats look inept because of not being able to get him impeached. Most people don’t know the process to have the president impeached so they’ll look at it as a failure on the Democrats when in fact it’s not even a possibility right now. People need to stop looking at impeachment as the answer because it’s not. As fast as they’re going. this country is not going to wait until we have a majority in the house and senate. It’s going to be up to the people to take this country back.

CBS created this. This is on them. Everyone knows you never give a bully the kind of power they handed to him. They allowed a long time employee, that everyone loved, to walk away (60 Minutes) all to appease him. Bending over to this tyrant can only make things worse. What did they think would happen? He’s a disgruntled, old man with the mentality of a 3 year old.

I just don't understand why journalists continue to soften their stories by saying that this is the most aggressive action "in recent memory". In recent memory? The FCC has never pulled a broadcasting license due to content. Never. So this is another first for the Trump administration and for America. It is the most eggregious act by the federal government against a major American broadcaster, in history. Full stop.
