Also, if you leave, you still have to pay American taxes. That blows it for most

Eh, yes and no. It depends on the country and the tax treaty, but as a general rule unless you’re making over $126,000/year(all foreign income) or paying in more than $10,000/year in taxes (in a foreign country), you don’t end up owing taxes in the U.S. Still gotta file though

Yes, we're in Portugal which has a treaty with the US, so there isn't double taxation. We pay on SS, but then deduct it from our US taxes. Best decision we ever made.

Claire, what matters isn’t the party or a country, but ideas - we can have a democrat party in Namibia, it doesn’t have to be America. Our, and people’s lives, are far more important. If we stay here, we are legitimizing white supremacy.

A lot of people voted for Trump so much of those staying would be MAGATs. There's no reason that most people shouldn't be able to leave, if they plan ahead, especially since places elsewhere are much more affordable - you can find 3 bedroom houses in (as an example) Kenya for <$50,000, and the cost of living there is 50-60% smaller. Keep in mind this will get worse in America due to tariffs and inflation. It’s easier said than done for the majority of people who live here. We all have jobs, homes, responsibilities and a temporary visa in another country doesn’t help much because what happens when that temporary visa is up? People will still have to come back here, but they’d have to come back to no job, possibly no home. Visa options for other countries are so incredibly limited AND expensive that ‘just leave the country’ is not a viable option for the millions of regular Americans who would need to leave the most

One problem: you can’t ’stock up’ on medications. Most insurance companies only allow 30-90 at a time and for some there is no 90 day option. For many people paying for 90 days of medicine is far more than they can pay; they’re lucky that they can pay for 30 days of medicine at a time, bills, food, and the rest of their monthly bills.

He can't attack every state, every university, school system, law firm, big box store, corporation, or hospital and expect to come out of it unscathed. Everyone, big or small, wealthy or poor, GOP or Dem, and everywhere in between, needs to stick together to beat this bastard! We all need to play the same hand!

I think we will know when or if to leave. Be prepared. I did Google something like"what does one pack to leave home in a dire emergency?" It was very complete. Have everything ready. If you can leave some things packed and in the car, and some packed in the house, it'll be easier to grab and go. I was surprised, but going to a protest on the 5th was so uplifting, so many like minded people, it was amazing! Make phone calls to state government officials and Washington. I like calling after hours to leave a scathing message.

I suggest going on your state gov site as well as DC. I am calling the GOP reps, senators, and congresspeople. However, they may ask your zip code, so find out where they represent and google the zip code. Then you can give the GOP spineless POSs a (polite) piece of your mind. Leave your 1st name and cell number. Participate in anything you can. The People's Union, USA is sponsoring another Economic blackout for Walmart that started on the 7th and goes for a week, but you can stop using Amazon, Facebook, and other global companies. Also, Google the stores that are supporting trump and boycott them! Try only purchasing from "Mom and Pop" stores, which will benefit your community. I hope no one has to leave, but we do need to be ready. Btw, I feel better just knowing and messaging people with the same mind set.
