CBS was bowing to political pressure for years before the Paramount merger. Remember Dan Rather? A member of the board said the quiet part out loud, and admitted that a GOP win in 2004 would be economically better for CBS.

Thank you for communicating the correction. As you said, it's still an assault on our freedoms.

Effectively, it is very little different from reporting directly to Trump. He has laid down the ideological rules that Paramount and CBS must follow or suffer the consequences. I seriously doubt anyone in charge at either entity will step a toe out of line.

I won’t be tuning in to CBS or Paramount anyway. As a country we need to reread 1984!!

We should boycott ALL Paramount and CBS movies and shows. If enough of us do so, they will lose revenue from advertisers and we should boycott their advertisers until they rescind their spineless decision.

Trump silences critics, rewrites culture, and demands loyalty, and payoffs. His vendetta is shaping a dark future. We’re watching the death of lawful dissent in real time. This administration is an authoritarian regime.

Even if you got the "president" wrong, well, I still think that their should be a BIAS MONITOR ON THE WHITE HOUSE. The race-baiting and slurs against peoples character with no proof of a crime in itself A CRIME!

Don't be deceived. The Ellisons are maga. If they weren't they would have objected to it. It may have even been their idea. The whole premise is total anathema. I hope the entire News Division including 60 Minutes quits. We still need to boycott, whoever is responsible for this horror. We need to show them we aren't sheep who are going to meekly march into the slaughterhouse.

VEE LAVALLEE's avatar

I didn’t know that, thanks for telling me. I also hope they all quit but what you’re left with IS the MAGA propagandists. Of course boycott and protest to the extreme. Also take care of your neighbours especially those who have no one else. If they are suffering in silence because of this imbecile then they need people to stand up for them. Those with families have each other but those who don’t can be “disappeared” without consequence. Until he’s gone there has to be constant unwavering commitment to foul his moves at every step. As they say “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink!”

Would anyone be amenable to a posted list of CBS advertisers? My understanding is it’s illegal to call for a boycott, so this is just for information.

Expand full comment
BethS's avatar

From what I have researched, it depends upon the purpose of the boycott. Boycotts to effect government reform is protected by the First Amendment. Boycotts for the purpose of economic gain would violate fair trade laws. Here is an article that may help to understand the difference. https://firstamendment.mtsu.edu/article/boycotts/

You can always consult a lawyer before taking any action if concerned.

Anything CBS or Paramount related. the News division isn't where they make the bulk of their money. It's the streaming channel, the sports programming, the movies etc. We need to boycott all of it.

Yes, especially the NFL which has massive multimillion dollar contracts with CBS to air and stream their games on CBS and affiliates. CBS is the home of many big NFL tv markets such as New York (Jets and Giants), MIAMI (dolphins), Boston (NE Patriots) and rest of the AFC teams. Boycott the NFL on CBS and watch their corporate profits and stock plummet. Advertisers will take their money and run.

This is a violation of the First Amendment. Sadly, wimpout CBS waived their First Amendment rights by caving faster than a bolt of lightning moves. Any lawyers who specialize in securities fraud lawsuits willing to look into it? I'm more rusty than a gate hinge, so I'd need to brush up on what I knew 35 years ago on this area of the law.
