I’m standing in the heart of the nation’s capital right now, surrounded by a sea of voices—over 100,000 strong—gathered in a sweeping demonstration of resistance against what many here see as an alarming consolidation of power by President Donald Trump and senior White House advisor Elon Musk, who leads the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency.
Thank you all for allowing me to do this full time :)
Thank you to all who have become paid subscribers or sent one time donations to my venmo (aaron-parnas) or my paypal (aparnas@law.gwu.edu) love you all!
I just got back from the DC protest and what impressed me -- in addition to how many people were there -- was how relaxed and friendly but very insistent and clear the vibe was.
heather cox richardson has a post I saw in which she is saying that part of what makes fascism fail is joy, it's people being joyful, living their lives and that actually doing your thing is also resistance. Your comment made me think of her post. That the vibe there is a good sign!
Tequila! This afternoon's rally at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia was at least as joyfully invigorating as this short video! Total strangers would comment positively on each others' signs, agreeing with the evil selfishness of cancelling Social Security earned benefits checks, support for veterans, closing of National Parks, ignorant fear of immigrants ... the whole package. Musk too came in for pretty hard criticism ("Deport the musk-rat"!) Jillions of passing cars with windows rolled down, fists raised out the window in salute while car horns blared ... all in all, a much needed boost of "We're in this together -and we're gonna win this!"
I was at the Atlanta protest, and I felt the same energy and determination there! We have to keep the pressure on! It was so uplifting to be among thousands of like minded people!
I agree. I was there too, and there was a feeling of unity.
I rode metro in. I don't ride metro often, but there were clearly many first time riders. First protest I've been to and I think first for many others. Glad I went. Happy that so many showed up.
Amazing energy on the ground, and lots of families! DC is a beautiful and safe place to protest. I hope even more will join us next time! Today has been incredible— and we appreciate you, Aaron, for covering it!
Absolutely we will recover!! I am looking forward to the midterms where I am quite certain Democrats will take back the House and Senate. We will stop trumpy from getting anything done!
Loving this resistance and sending full support from Australia! We aren't fond of authoritarian rule and tyranny either, and stand behind you 100% 🇦🇺✊🏻
Yea, vulnerable/marginalized people need to stay safe. To be clear, Trump is a white people problem. To our shame, 50%of white women voted for him. It is our responsibility to fix this.
I believe it’s more like 2% now but I get your point. It’s the first of many but we need to have two or three national topics and unite that way. There are so many attacks everywhere we keep spinning and getting sidetracked.
We are so sorry for his insane attacks and threats re Greenland. There were a number of signs at our local rally (5K people) completely focused on standing up about Candada and Greenland!
I am leaving now to support the Hands OFF Protest here in Monterey Bay, CA. Haven’t attended one since Berkeley in the early 1970’s…but THIS FEELS MANDATORY!
Stay strong Debi, in your red area. I know it’s hard. I lived in District 1 in Florida, Matt Gaetz district. I was a blue marble in an ocean of red balloons. Thanks so much for getting out there for us ALL.
The energy on the ground is ELECTRIC!!!!!

I became a paid subscriber and now I am not getting the daily emails anymore. What do I do?
Watching from Canada,
Canada, France, England and Belgium are all having protests against the felon and his administration.
I can’t be there with you, but dang proud of what you’re doing to push back!
Go America 🇺🇸
Thank you for letting us know we are not alone in this fight—we are standing up for democracy for us, for you, for everyone. We love you all!
We love you Canada and France and England and Belgium. He does NOT represent most people in America!
Thank you Suzanne. This is a very exhausting fight day in and day out. Thank you standing with us as our President tries to take the world down.
America will recover from this because of the people that genuinely care for the well being of all.
The felon is fast losing the support he had, musk is learning that the curse of the felon is real. 😂
Absolutely we will recover!! I am looking forward to the midterms where I am quite certain Democrats will take back the House and Senate. We will stop trumpy from getting anything done!
THANK YOU!!!
We love Canada, and we are protesting for you too!

Thank you!! We want him GONE!!
I’m guessing well over a million nationwide.
I stand corrected. I am now reading over 5 million.
A million is less than 1% of the population and that scares me. Too many apathetic Americans is the factor that will keep him in power
Thanks to ICE, the POC have been saying they're sitting this one out! Absolutely the smart thing to do!
