The “Checks and Balances” of power is in the Constitution…but it has failed. However, it is explicitly stated in the Declaration of Independence that when people’s rights are destroyed, the People may alter or replace the current government.

Fox.orOx. it’s actually in the Declaration of Independence.

‘This document, adopted in 1776, asserts that when a government becomes destructive of the people’s rights, the people have a right to alter or abolish that government.

I know what it says, but it doesn't say how to go about it. I think altering or abolishing it has been interpreted as by elections. I was hoping there was another way, but since elections are now bought by the oligarchs, it hasn't worked.

Recognizing tyranny in a country involves observing a combination of indicators related to the government's behavior and its impact on its citizens.

Here are some key signs:

* Erosion of Civil Liberties: This includes increased surveillance without oversight, restrictions on free speech and peaceful assembly, and the arbitrary detention of individuals.

* Centralization of Power: Power becomes concentrated in the hands of a few, often through manipulating democratic processes or seizing control, according to the University of Southern California.

* Propaganda and Control of Information: The government heavily relies on propaganda, censorship, and spreading false information to control public opinion and suppress dissent.

* Undermining of Institutional Integrity: This involves weakening institutions intended to be impartial, such as the judiciary or electoral processes, for the benefit of those in power.

* Normalization of Violence:Violence, including state-sponsored brutality, becomes accepted against certain groups or individuals, fostering a climate of fear.

* Suppression of Freedoms: Basic freedoms like speech, religion, and the right to assemble are suppressed, preventing individuals from expressing their beliefs or opposing the government.

* Arbitrary Rule: Laws are applied inconsistently, leading to arbitrary punishments and a disregard for due process.

* Violation of Property Rights: The state may seize property without fair compensation, increasing its power over citizens.

* Lack of Participation in Governance: Citizens are excluded from political processes, lacking representation and the ability to challenge authority.

Historical examples of tyrannical regimes include:

* Nazi Germany: Known for its brutal repression of dissent and violation of human rights.

* Stalinist Soviet Union: Another example of a regime known for its oppressive policies.

* Ancient Greek City-States under Tyranny: Demonstrated how power concentrated in the hands of a single ruler, even if initially welcomed for stability, could lead to oppression.

* North Korea: Maintains a highly centralized and authoritarian system with the Kim regime holding absolute power, according to Number Analytics.

It is important to be vigilant and aware of these signs to protect democratic values and human rights, according to the University of Southern California, which studies the characteristics of tyrannical governments

The Trump administration has adopted and exercised all of those. The problem is the enforcement of violations for those are with the Dept. of Justice. The framers of the Constitution trusted the checks and balances of the Congress and the US Supreme Court, never dreaming that Congress and the Supreme Court would abandon or cede their power. Unfortunately, The Republican majority part of Congress and majority of the Supreme Court have done just that. The Dept. of Justice should be totally independent of the Executive branch, but the aforesaid allowed Trump to take over the DOJ without a fight or even a complaint.

Besides no wants them to storm the capitol like the violent republicans did on January 6th, gee; I hope not.

We are at this time and place, because millions of white Democrats could not release their racism and misogyny. The thought of voting for VP Harris was too much of a bridge to cross. Do something everyday to make a difference. Just saying.
