BREAKING: Cory Booker is 12 Hours into his Speech on the Senate Floor

Cory Booker is now nearly 12 hours into his speech on the Senate floor, the Trump Administration admits it accidentally deported a father to El Salvador and it can't bring him back, and more

Today is April 1st, and here’s your morning news rundown. Before I jump in—I want to say thank you. My work isn’t backed by ad companies; it’s funded by you. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber today. Today is going to be a very busy day with the elections this evening, so I will be keeping you updated non-stop!

With that, here is all the news you missed:

  • In a dramatic and unexpected move, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) launched a solo speech last night aimed at blocking Republican nominees backed by the Trump administration. As of this post, nearly 12 hours later, he remains on the Senate floor, preventing the floor from closing. He intends on remaining on the Senate floor for as long as he can. One question: If I can get an interview with Senator Booker about this would you want to listen, and if so, what questions would you want answered?

  • The Trump administration has acknowledged it wrongfully deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father who was legally protected from removal, to a dangerous prison in El Salvador because of what they’re calling an “administrative error.” An immigration judge had granted Abrego Garcia withholding of removal back in 2019, which should’ve kept him from being deported. Now, the administration says it can’t bring him back to the U.S.

  • It’s election day in the United States! If you are in Wisconsin or in Florida, make sure you make your voice heard. In Wisconsin, the race will decide the direction of the Supreme Court, while in Florida, Democrats try to shock the country and win a special election in two Trump-held districts.

  • Layoffs have started at U.S. health agencies responsible for disease tracking, medical research, and overseeing food and drug safety.

  • Two U.S. officials told the Wall Street Journal that Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, has set up and led multiple private Signal chats with cabinet members to discuss sensitive national security matters — including separate threads on negotiating peace between Russia and Ukraine and planning military operations.

  • The National Treasury Employees Union has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration over an order from Trump that strips most federal workers of their collective bargaining rights.

  • A federal judge in Virginia has halted the Trump administration from firing dozens of intelligence officers who were set to lose their jobs after being temporarily assigned to work on diversity initiatives.

  • Iranian military leaders are reportedly under increasing pressure to launch a preemptive strike on the joint U.S.-UK base in Diego Garcia, according to The Telegraph.

See you this evening.
