From what I've read in Politifact, the screenshot of a 2012 tweet that shows him saying that is a fake that's been floating around for years. On the flipside, he's probably said things to the same effect at one of his many faschy rallies.
It's true, it does sound like something he'd say/post. And he's probably said something to that effect before. The only caveat is that the tweet screenshot that gets shared is a fake. The fact that it's so believable is why it gets shared all the time.
