We live near Salmon, ID, that part of the N Idaho is on the southern fringe of the Aryan Nation, all the way to the Canadian border excluding Sand Point with is fairly purple. Remember the Bundy incident, these might be the type of ppl involved.

It could be a person(s) who are “anti-gov’mnt”, someone on drugs, psychotic, or if more than one person which it sounds like it could be, the persons have a dispute with firefighters from previous wildfires in the area that may have started on private land and spread to USFS or BLM land.

They could have been the individuals who started the previous fire(s) and were charged, fined and can’t pay the fine. Sometimes are i’m sure all have read it can result in thousands if not millions of dollars depending on the losses.

My husband is a Safety Officer on wildfires after working 37years as an AK Jumper. He said in his 40+ years he’s never heard of anything like this happening before. He said there will definitely be more law enforcement now on all wildfires in the West. The National Smokejumper Association just had their 85th Anniversary in Missoula, MT last weekend. They, and all wildland fire personnel, perform a job many never think of performing, structural as well as wildland.

There are also some contract crews that hire undocumented immigrants, my husband said who are some of the hardest working individuals he sees on fires, never complaining about anything. Believe us, there are things to complain about, mainly the food service in some states. We’re praying it’s two individuals we don’t know. Are they Hot Shots, local Fire dept personnel, we don’t know yet. We suggest no matter where you are donate to your local fire department- call and see if they need anything, during fire season or during a wildfire.

Because the firefighters are sitting ducks in this situation. Easy targets. Shooting people like firefighters, LEOs, EMS is a statement in itself. It is a bold choice, designed for maximum shock value.

How do you know what the motive was (shock value). Did you know him personally or something?

Expand full comment
Jen's avatar

No, I don't know whomever it is (last i heard, the shooter or shooters have not been identified). As for shock value....setting a fire to lure firemen out in order to assassinate them? Making people coming to do their jobs into human targets. The shooter or shooters wanted attention. And now they have it, as its all over the news. Shock value.

Expand full comment
VEE LAVALLEE's avatar

I disagree. Only the States allows ordinary citizens to own a gun. That's why it leads the world in killings with a gun! Join the dots. The regulations won't change peoples attitudes towards killing someone easily with a gun. How many deaths are you up to now? Gun owners find it easy to kill with a gun because they are cowards that can't win a fight or even settle a dispute any other way.

Expand full comment
AbNormal Thoughts's avatar

Just to piggyback on your comment, but why is the shooting in SLC during the “No Kings Day” protest not having a full disclosure of who (the protest volunteer), shot an innocent person, although they had been told no weapons. Additionally, 50501 removed their association from the UT chapter.

Expand full comment
VEE LAVALLEE's avatar

Sorry I missed that. There's always going to be someone in the crowd who, even in a peaceful protest waits for an excuse to shoot somebody, but overall those marches were PEACEFUL! Not that I condone anybody taking a gun outside of a gun club. Other countries have clubs where they can practice their prowess with a gun but they are NOT allowed to take the weapon off the premises. They sign it out and they sign it back in. No exceptions. Why can't the States adopt that rule for people who like to own gun? A person can shoot you just because you pulled into his driveway to turn around! You have guns because your nation lives in fear and your current president stokes it. Guns kill, the argument that it's the people with the gun that kills doesn't hold water. Owning a gun is a fear reflex. That's what needs correcting. The USA is getting closer to everybody owning a gun because your fear factor is rising not lessening. I doubt Americans will ever stop being living fear, it's been ingrained into you.
