Well they are cutting all our programs and firing all our federal employees. So if our taxes are not going to go towards helping Americans. Then shut the shit down. Full šŸ›‘

that only leaves the money for them to take to give tax cuts to millionaires & billionaires, people who already hold enough financial wealth to last ten lifetimes & hoard in ways resulting in upsetting a national economy, your mistake was choosing a criminal over someone of good character & integrity just because those traits came attached to an individual with lady parts so, you have your almighty White male & his fecklessness & attendant criminality I swear, this country's majority is woefully stuck on stupid, making us our own worst enemy.

I don’t understand your system… if Muskrat has saved billions, why do you have to raise the debt ceiling to keep the country running? Where did the money go he saved?

My Maga husbands response to this is something about needing to pay interest on loans and China and to prevent the collapse of the dollar. I’m guessing that rhetoric is all MAGA talking points from right wing podcasters & I cannot even follow the logic.

There is no logic. He wants to own Canada and thinks he can intimidate us. We will never be American, ever. He actually admires China, and would like to rule in that manner… i hope the American people solve him… soon.

You got that right. It’s all about control, weakening the government agencies in order to do what they want, avoid accountability, and rob the country, blind. Rooting out waste is just a cover story. āœŠšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ˜Ž

Majority of the "savings" has been falsely reported so there's hardly any savings happening. Any savings that they are making are likely funding the $9M per week it costs for DOGE to exist. Not to mention he's lining his own pockets with government contracts.

Cause he didn't find any to save.... he's a liar like trump. They want everyone to think they found something but they didn't. Trump was lying in his state of the union that musk found all kinds of money but it wasn't true. And dummy mike johnson shaking his head like a fool agreeing . The Republicans did the same thing. So gullible.

This is tax filing season. Although refunds most likely won’t be severely impacted (those employees, what’s left of them anyway, are deemed essential), no amended returns or non-tax filing related questions, issues or forms/applications will be processed. It can take years to address any backlog created by a shutdown.

Aviva Brick's avatar

Amended returns will still be processed, that’s my department. The number of essentials is extremely low compared to past years, but they’ll have mandatory overtime once budget is back on

This is how I would like to see Congress Dems respond to this - EVERY DAY on the CAPITOL STEPS

Apparently DEMS are the only ones concerned about these services and firings - This is COMPLETELY ON REPUBLICANS - and DISMANTLING and PRIVATIZING (to turn them into profitable ventures, they can price at their own values) are exactly what they are planning

ELON WILL CONTINUE during this period to downsize departments and staff (I assume he will identify his team as "essential services" - he has his eyes on every employee and department and days are numbered for many/most of them

They will try to point the finger - what they are really saying is that - we APPROVE the reductions in services and employees, stolen appropriated funds, threats to Medicare and Social Security that will certainly come back in the final budget

And THIS IS THE TIME for a formal DECLARATION SIGNED BY ALL DEMOCRATS making clear that the BUDGET MUST BE CONDITIONED on RESTORATION of:

1) STOLEN FUNDS, and

2) DEPARTMENTS and EMPLOYEES until Congress can conduct a THOUGHTFUL REVIEW of complete DOCUMENTATION by DOGE of the justification for its actions, how the departments can continue to operate, and whether the goal is to privatize

3) assurance that Medicare, Social Security, our safety net will not be reduced in any way

The proposed Republican bill will mean less and less for We, the People, and more and more for the rich and privileged. Of course.

ā€œThe proposed spending bill includes a range of controversial provisions that have fueled dissent. Among the cuts outlined in the legislation are reductions to police grants, funding for the Toxic Exposures Fund—which helps care for veterans exposed to harmful substances like burn pits and Agent Orange—and environmental grants. Healthcare grants (excluding Medicaid) would also face significant reductions, raising concerns about the potential impact on vital services.ā€

Dem Reps, do NOT vote for a CR budget. Tom Cole said it in his PR. Connect the dots! Republicans want to let DOGE keep rampaging & Trump & Co to keep cutting funding & milking the working class. Republicans are acting in BAD faith. They are hurting millions ALREADY. We see through their charade!!!

Carol Berman D'Andrade's avatar

Will Elin keep cutting during a shut down?

Expand full comment
Juli killgore's avatar

but good question because they will have to show the firings are of non essential staff - which I think they are claiming already

I hate that anyone has to suffer from a shutdown, but I believe everyone will suffer so much more in the near future if DOGE has its way with the firings and the tax cut budget (which is all it really it)

Expand full comment
Juli killgore's avatar

I believe those services designated as "essential" would continue - I am guessing Elon/Trump will squeeze DOGE into this definition, to the extent not subject to court freezes
