Musk sides with Russia, Georgia Grand Jury Report released, and more
Today is Saturday September 9, 2023, and here are four stories that you missed from the past day. If you enjoy these short daily digests, then please consider becoming a monthly subscriber today:
1) Elon Musk Sides With Russia
In new reporting, we have learned that Elon Musk rejected a request from Ukrainian authorities to activate the Starlink satellite network about occupied Crimea's port city, Sevastopol. Last year, when Ukrainian forces planned on a surprise attack of a Russian fleet of ships located in Sevastopol, Musk was asked to active the Starlink system. Despite pleas from the Ukrainian military, Musk rejected the emergency request "to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol." Musk wrote on X that "[t]he obvious intent [was] to sing most of the Russian fleet at anchor. If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation." Instead of helping Ukrainians fighting on the battlefield, Musk explicitly sided with the Russians, again. Learn more here.
2) Georgia Special Purpose Grand Jury Report Released
This week, the Special Purpose Grand Jury Report in Georgia, which had been previously sealed, was released and the information is stunning. The Special Purpose Grand Jury voted to recommend charges against Donald Trump and his 18 co-defendants, along with several unindicted individuals including Senator Lindsey Graham, former Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn, Lin Wood, and others. Despite these recommendations, District Attorney Fani Willis decided against charging many of these individuals, including Senator Graham. Learn more about this report here.
3) Earthquake in Morocco
Devastation has occurred in Morocco as one of the strongest earthquakes in the country’s history hit earlier yesterday. A 6.8 magnitude earthquake has left much of the country in turmoil as over 2,000 individuals have been found dead, with thousands more injured in the first 24 hours. Both numbers are expected to increase substantially as search and rescue efforts continue. As soon as I have more information as to how you can help, I will let you know. In the interim, be sure to say a prayer for those impacted by the earthquake.
4) Major Climate Win at the G20
In a major win for people around the world, President Biden joined other G20 countries to launch the Global Biofuels Alliance. This critical initiative is meant to invest in more green energy and accelerate the push to net zero emissions. As Reuters notes, “the alliance, with the United States and Brazil as its founding members, would help accelerate global efforts to meet net zero emissions targets by facilitating trade in biofuels derived from sources including plant and animal waste.” Overall, this is a major win in the fight against the climate crisis.
