Proud boys sentenced, Ukrainian children return back to school, and more
Happy 1st day of September! I am sorry I have not released as many daily digests during the past week or so, work has been brutal! But, expect more content coming soon, so if you support my work and want more, please consider becoming a monthly subscriber at the link below!
1) Proud Boys Sentenced
Today, two January 6th defendants, both high ranking officers within the far-right Proud Boys organization, were sentenced to over a decade in prison. Dominic Pezzola was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, while Ethan Nordean was sentenced to 18 years in prison, matching the longest sentence thus far in a January 6-related case. Both sentences, however, were far below the guidelines and the requested sentence by the Department of Justice which was 20 years and 27 years, respectively. These latest sentences come one day after Joe Biggs and Zach Rehl were sentenced to 17 years and 15 years, respectively. The next January 6th defendant to be sentenced will be Enrique Tarrio, the leader of the Proud Boys. He will be sentenced on Tuesday, and prosecutors are seeking a 33 year prison sentence. Expect a lengthy, but below guidelines sentence for Tarrio. Stay tuned for more.
2) Trump, Rudy, and Co. Plead Not Guilty
Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, and others have all pled not guilty, in writing, and waived their appearances in front of a Georgia judge concerning the latest indictment alleging their violations of the Georgia RICO law. In addition, the Judge assigned to the case issued an order stating that all proceedings, including a possible trial, will be televised publicly. This will officially be the only Trump criminal case where the public will have the opportunity to watch the trial from home. Unlike in federal court, cameras are not prohibited in George State Court.
3) Ukraine Update
The war continues in Ukraine and both Ukraine and Russia are locked in a stalemate as both sides have made minimal progress this past week in their respective efforts. Today, Russia announced that its newest nuclear weapons system, the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, is officially operational. This new weapons system was previously nicknamed “Satan II” in Western countries.
Meanwhile, the Nobel Prize committee is receiving significant pushback after it invited Ambassadors from Russia and Belarus to its upcoming banquet. Both ambassadors were disinvited last year. According to the Nobel Foundation, it is “broadening [its] invitations” to involve those who do not share the values of the Nobel Prize. While the Nobel Foundation welcomes Russia and Belarus back into the fold, 4 million Ukrainian children have went back to school today, some of which being forced to attend school underground in psuedo-bomb shelters as atrocities have not stopped.
