We have now entered the fourth day of the war in Israel, and here is everything you need to know. With war, there is a lot of information that is often difficult to compartmentalize into easily digestible reads. And, with the news moving at a fast pace, news is often missed and information is often interpreted incorrectly at first. To the extent any information changes, you will be the first to know.
1) Devastation in Southern Israel
This morning, further devastation was revealed in Southern Israel after IDF soldiers were able to recapture certain towns near the Gaza border. In Kibbutz Kfar Aza, which is located just a quarter mile from the border, at least 40 babies were found murdered, with some beheaded. In addition, Hamas terrorists left behind booby traps for soldiers and civilians. These new images demonstrate the depravity of Hamas fighters in the first few days of the war.
2) Israel Prepares for Gaza Offensive
Meanwhile, Israel is actively preparing for what many expect to be a lengthy and costly ground offensive in Gaza. For reference, in 2005, Israel gave up Gaza to the Palestinian Authority after many attempts at peace. Now, the Israeli Government is gearing up for another ground offensive in Gaza. According to reports over the last 24 hours, Israel has moved a significant number of resources, including tanks, to the Gaza border. In addition, the Israeli military has begun urging civilians in Gaza to leave residential areas and head for safety as military operations continue in the area. Since then, Israel shut all crossings between Israel and Gaza in preparation for the offensive. Finally, President Biden did not urge restraint when told by Prime Minister Netanyahu of the plans for the ground offensive.
3) Hamas To Release Hostage Videos
This morning, Israeli citizens received text messages from their schools telling parents that Hamas is expected to release hostage videos soon and asked the parents to have their children remove Instagram and TikTok from their phones as the hostage videos may be disseminated on those social media platforms.
4) Death Toll Rises
The death toll continues to rise on both sides of the conflict. As of this morning, over 1,000 Israeli civilians have been killed since the start of the war, while over 700 Palestinian civilians have been killed. In addition, several thousand civilians have been injured on both sides with the injury and death numbers expected to rise exponentially as the conflict continues.
5) The International Community Issues Joint Statement
Yesterday, President Biden, along with other world leaders, issued a joint statement in support of Israel. The statement makes clear that although all parties recognize the aspirations of the Palestinian people, Hamas does not represent those interests and has chosen terrorism and bloodshed. The international community remains firmly behind Israel during this difficult time and the United States, with President Biden at the helm, is leading the way. Read the full statement here.
