Here’s the news:
Elon Musk vs. Donald Trump:
Elon Musk mocked Donald Trump on Twitter Monday, posting a “Jeffrey Epstein Pedophile Arrest Counter” image showing “0000” arrests. Musk captioned it: “What’s the time? Oh look, it’s no-one-has-been-arrested-o’clock again …”
The post came after Axios reported on a DOJ memo stating:
No evidence Epstein blackmailed powerful figures or kept a “client list.”
No indication Epstein was murdered; suicide ruling stands.
No further arrests or charges are expected.
Meanwhile, other Republicans, including close Trump allies like Laura Loomer, were extremely unhappy with the Department of Justice’s decision, spending the evening and overnight hours attacking the Trump Administration.
Texas Floods:
At least 82 people are dead and dozens missing after flash floods hit central Texas Friday, with water from the Guadalupe River rising 26 feet in 45 minutes.
11 remain unaccounted for, including 10 girls and a camp counselor from Camp Mystic.
Kerr County confirmed 68 deaths, including 28 children; 10 more deaths reported in surrounding counties.
850 people were rescued; over 400 responders are still involved as rain hampers efforts.
Officials warned of another potential surge due to saturated ground and continued rain.
President Trump declared a federal disaster and plans to visit Friday, while questions are mounting over whether authorities gave sufficient warning.
All other news:
The Trump administration is now calling Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation “a one-off mistake” and “an administrative error,” despite previously firing one lawyer and suspending another for making that same claim.
When asked whether tariff rates change on July 9 or August 1, Trump gave a vague response: “The tariffs are going to be the tariffs,” adding most countries would be settled by July 9. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick then clarified they take effect August 1.
When asked if the Commanders should revert to the Redskins name, Trump said he “would” make the change, adding the new name lacks the same “ring,” though winning could make “Commanders” sound better.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. will make several trade announcements within 48 hours, noting a surge in new offers and proposals after a shift in negotiation tone.
A trial begins Monday in Massachusetts challenging the Trump administration’s “ideological-deportation policy” targeting pro-Palestinian foreign students, marking the first time the government must defend its claim that it can deport noncitizens based solely on political speech.
Trump threatened an additional 10% tariff on countries aligning with the “anti-American policies” of BRICS (including China and Russia), declaring “no exceptions.” The move follows BRICS criticism of his tariff hikes at their summit in Rio.
See you this evening.
