PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - JANUARY 3: (EDITOR'S NOTE: This Handout image was provided by a third-party organization and may not adhere to Getty Images' editorial policy.) U.S. President Donald Trump, CIA Director John Ratcliffe (L) and Secretary of State Marco Rubio monitor U.S. military operations in Venezuela, from Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club on January 3, 2026 in Palm Beach, Florida. President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores were brought to New York on Saturday after being captured by the U.S. military in Caracas. They are expected to face federal charges related to drug trafficking and working with gangs designated as terrorist organizations.

President Donald Trump’s military intervention in Venezuela claimed more lives than initially suspected, according to the country’s interior minister. Diosdado Cabello said on Wednesday that the operation to extricate dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife claimed the lives of 100 people, despite the U.S. placing the initial death toll at 75, The Washington Post reports. “So far—and I say so far—there are 100 dead. One hundred. And a similar number injured,” he said. It is the first time Caracas has put a number on its dead, previously only stating the names of 23 slain service members, while Cuba, too, said 32 of its military personnel had died in the attack. Reuters reports that Venezuela also said large numbers of Maduro’s security detail were killed “in cold blood.” Cabello commenced a week of mourning for the fallen troops on Tuesday. CNBC reports that the Pentagon said seven U.S. service members were injured in the operation, five have recovered, and no fatalities have been announced.

His name is Jonathan Ross. I saw it in an article this morning in the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Adsumus's avatar

Yes, hit the wires a few hours ago, I've been out. May he get a lifelong of unrest, there's not a place in the United State that he will be unidentifiable. I bet you, he's placed in a special relocation zone, outside of the continental. They're going to protect him at all costs.

Ms.JP's avatar

The latest attempt to sanitize the murder is to use Ross’ previous experience of being dragged by a car as an excuse for being triggered. This is exactly why due process is so important, it is for the safety of all including the agents. NOEM is responsible for allowing due process to be violated. I have repeatedly written to my congressman members about the loss of due process and habeas corpus in immigration enforcement. The failure of GOPCongress to enforce this was the beginning of their succession from their duty. Abandoning the constitution, they left us while pretending so be our representatives. They are guilty also. This will continue to put agents in extremely compromised positions.

Leah Baum's avatar

The ICE murderers name is Johnathan Ross. I believe the regime is protecting and has him in hiding. This is the second time he’s violated the law against an American citizen. In my opinion he needs hunted down, put him in jail until he’s put on trial for murder.

You'd think he'd have better control of his emotions & that gun. She was driving away, he should have let her.

Great reporting, we need anything which could lead to him. But notice, no donors, no money. It's an ignored request with only a pic from the internet. Nothing on the internet to validate Marc Vojnic as being in Minnesota or an agent, it's a unique enough name that something would come up. I say it's b.s. somebody trying to capitalize on MAGA stupidity not to check it out and simply give over the red hat dollars; I applaud it, they are stupid enough to actually give. If you've been traveling the internet, there are people glorifying him and vilifying Renee. THEY ARE THAT STUPID!

Yes, thought the same!

Sounds like a MAGA reaction.

JUST LIKE THE VILLAINS IN THE EPSTEIN FILES, ACCOUNTABILITY IS A LIE. not every popsicle agent is following Criminal orders but putting 3 in the dome for traffic violations or federal crimes, is terrorism and we stop terrorists and violence in our homes, work places, airports & schools when it's happening. we don't "document and record". left&right are protected under 2A & it's our American duty to take necessary action to protect ourselves. our police officers aren't putting 3 in the dome for everyone who makes traffic violations or carries/under the influence of substances that are federal crimes. there are consequences to not following orders but 3 to the dome isnt one of them. we stop it at home, stop it at school and stop it in our airports. white skin and a mask does not prevent someone from being a threat. especially when that threat is so conspicuous and public. 2A isn't reserved for MAGA extremist with government jobs. Justice isnt reserved for the wealthy. you're worried about martial law but he already has all the power: he controls schools/universities, religion, lawyers, judicial branch, the military, the house, biggest monopoly corporations & the media. Earthlings stand up to terrorism regardless of skin, mask & jobs titles & we have 2A to thank for that. RIP Charlie Kirk

Elisa Teel's avatar

You fucked up big time.

Marlo's avatar

Are we sure this is the murderer?

Adsumus's avatar

In respect to all the video available, there is no doubt as to which agent on site shot Renee. As I stated, this is a computer composite of his face unmasked from the video taken. Photo editing using AI has leaped to outrageous heights in just the last year; it is possible he has a goatee, beard, mustache but, the shape is essentially going to be on target. My hope is somebody knows an ice agent that looks essentially like the guy in the photo. We need to do the work ourselves since, as of the news reports this morning, Minneapolis AND Minnesota law enforcement has been officially locked out of the investigation or even getting any information on the investigation; it has been handed solely to the FBI. You already know the circus and joke that investigation is going to be!

Echo's avatar

May this ICE officer (Gestapo )and his family know no peace for the rest of their lives

RobWhitH's avatar

The guy shot her three times! Once through the windshield and then moved over to shoot her two times through the drivers window. This was an execution, plain and simple. Three times, point blank.

virginia arthur's avatar

Yes. I think it was murder as well. The shooter should be in jail right now.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

No. I think it was murder.

Judy Steiner's avatar

Murder is a plan to kill.

virginia arthur's avatar

Shooting at someone at point blank range and pointing at their head is a plan to kill.

Christy's avatar

Yes, unless this ICE officer said something about wanting to kill someone -- even a general comment -- ahead of this event. That would be sorted out at trial, of course.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

He didn't shoot her just once to disable her. He shot her three times to end her and it was his choice to do so. To me , that is not manslaughter but rather murder. i.e. the killing was not accidental.

Leah Baum's avatar

No that’s premeditated murder. Johnathan Ross intent is to murder Ms Good.

Pamela Fender's avatar

Glenn Kirschner said it was a criminal homicide. Prosecutors will decide if it’s second degree murder or manslaughter.

DLNC's avatar

No. This was MURDER. Using the right words is critically important right now.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

I saw the horrific video and thought the reaction by ICE was clearly uncalled for . I am so saddened by this murder by a hardened professional with a gun and a willingness to kill with reckless abandon, it would seem. How will this be explained to the children? They are going to need much counselling ,as will others in the family, to deal with the rage and unimaginable grief after something like this, as hate foments hate .

Renee Goodman's avatar

TN's avatar

Hate is hate! Our division will not be resolved through more hate. I know it’s hard, I do, but there’s a better way forward that doesn’t make us hate those we disagree with or dislike.

Maria K.'s avatar

Really? Whether you like it or not, a lot of social and political progress has been achieved PRECISELY because of hate.

One caveat was - it was great hate combined with great love. When slaves and people who took up their cause fought against slavery, it wasn't because they found slavery mildly inconvenient. They hated it. That great hate was combined with great love for their fellow humans and their freedom.

Women didn't get beaten and imprisoned because they thought their lack of rights was a mere nuisance - they HATED the fact that they were being treated as inferior beings.

Right now, my fellow Ukrainians are not fighting Russia because they are annoyed - they hate that some big bully came barging into their country, committed hideous atrocities, and wants to get away with it and then some. This hate too is combined with their great love of their land and their independence.

Hate has its place - and I strongly believe it has its place here and now. We SHOULD hate these people for what they have done and what they continue to do. Because we also love those, whom they abuse and oppress. We SHOULD hate autocracy. We SHOULD hate abuse of power. Pretending like it's a mere disagreement is not going to get us anywhere. This is a serious problem and it will not be solved by the "let's all hold hands - we are still friends" attitude. We are talking about human rights violations here. That is not just a disagreement or dislike.

Sharon Churches's avatar

I had no idea I was capable of hating this deeply and this extends to my country for twice voting for a president who is evil to the core.

TN's avatar

You make some valid points on the power that drives change. You’re not wrong on several points regarding the duality of love and hate. However, I have pursued much inspiration from the civil right movement of the 60s, specifically the approach taken by Dr. MLK, Jr. who also understood the corrosion of hate on a community and on individuals. How are we better than the hate driving ICE agents to mistreat, abuse, and harm people if we also support similar hate ourselves?

Maria K.'s avatar

Not similar hate. They hate people for things outside of people's control. We hate them for what they do because of it. People have no choice in where they are born, or what color they are, or what sexual orientation. ICE agents have a choice whether to be what they are or not.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

Yes, they do have a choice.

Margaret B's avatar

Hate is not the same as anger. Anger fueled by attack or threat to someone or something you love can strengthen resolve and motivate to constructive action. Hate is hardened anger that has lost its way.

Maria K.'s avatar

I hate Putin, Trump, and a few other people, and I know exactly why. I haven't lost my way. Some people deserve to be hated and I am happy to provide that service. If my refusal to shy away from hate and what it entails makes anyone uncomfortable - you are free not to join me. I have a great capacity for hate and a great capacity for love, and I embrace both.

Linda Heath's avatar

I'm with you Maria K. I hate Trump and Putin more than I thought I could hate. They are a stain on mankind. They are as evil as cancer!

Maria K.'s avatar

Yup, that's what I've been comparing them to as well. And we have no reason not to hate cancer. I lost my mom to a bone tumor, lost friends to cancer as well. I hate what it does and I want it gone. Its only saving grace is - it doesn't know what it's doing, but THESE people do. Which makes it worse.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

I choose to not join you, Maria.

It appears that you have become them .

Maria K.'s avatar

Gee, thanks a lot! Because, obviously, you know everything about me and what I do and it is TOTALLY the same as hunting immigrants for sport and shooting innocent civilians. Well done! Enjoy piling more people into the same bucket!

Peter Tey's avatar

EXCELLENT....GOOD POINT

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

Maria, I feel for you and your country as you have had to deal with so much injustice by the Russians led by Putin , to the enrichment of the oligarchs that he pays homage to. Your hate , and that of your country , has obviously kept you fighting for your freedom to be a sovereign country for many years now.

My heart tells me to stand up to the wrong being done now in our country with righteous resolve and determination to right wrongs being perpetrate in our country by hateful Christian Nationalists people who love to hate and live to hate on a daily basis.

We, as Americans, must not become like them.

What I see as the solution to all of what is happening is to stand united as We,The People , against a fascist regime that wishes to overtake us and become our overlords for their own personal enrichment . Protests are a good thing and when done within the law and in an orderly manner can be a starting point toward a more just society by energizing voters to get the facts straight on the current issues that we are all facing in our country and vote out the trouble makers and vote in the sound thinkers who wish for a fair and equitable life in our country in accord with our Preamble, our Constitution and our Bill of Rights.

I'm with you and your people in your fight for these things and I want the best for you and yours for many years to come.

Maria K.'s avatar

Thank you. I am actually in the States - I am a first-generation Ukrainian-American. My parents are in the war-torn, daily-bombed Zaporizhzhya, and I can't get them out. Meanwhile, they are worried about me because I am a female neurodivergent immigrant living in the United States today - the LAST thing they should be worrying about, really, since they get shelled every day.

I am very aware and am part of the resistance effort here - supporting indie journalists like Aaron here, daily educating people about the situation in Ukraine, writing to my representatives, etc.

So, I am having double the fun wondering if my parents are still alive on an hourly basis and getting my personal share of hate for being an immigrant. All because of certain people's drive for money and power. I do not advocate violence - although, I am 100% rooting for my step-mom who said that, if Russians come barging into Zaporizhzhya, she would fight them off with her favorite cast iron frying pan. However, I reserve my right to hate and channel that feeling in whatever way I see necessary.

dee Romero's avatar

RIGHT NOW, people are trying to protect their families, neighbors, friends from danger. That's the opposite of the hate that you speak of. They are doing as we are told to do," LOVE ❤️ thy neighbor."

TN's avatar

The original comment was about wishing no peace on the accused gunman or his family for the rest of their lives. That’s not love or a viable solution to our division. You’re right, love is the answer but we must also provide it to those seemingly unworthy of our love and compassion to rise above the hate driving these horrific crimes! The point is that our anger, fear, and frustration, among other things, can result in hate within ourselves as well, which is not the way!

Maria K.'s avatar

The gunman had just destroyed a family, a neighborhood, and a circle of friends. At the very least, I hope his family walks away from him and his friends turn away from him, and he goes to jail for murder.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

From what I have learned to date about this situation , it appears to me that he is guilty of murder and should go to jail for that.

Maria K.'s avatar

Sadly, the powers that be are already spinning this as "self defense" and slandering the murdered woman as "disorderly" and the person who filmed the video - a "professional agitator".

virginia arthur's avatar

The hatred that “is driving these horrific crimes” was started and continues to be fed by donald trump. His “truth social” rants to his followers and his public statements drive the hatred. There is something inside of these people who follow him and commit these atrocities that matches his anger and hatred. Whether it is a feeling of being displaced in the work place or bigotry against non white people, I don’t know. Right now these people are full of hate and are complicit with these crimes.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

They are White Supremacists. That is what they do.

virginia arthur's avatar

The ICE “agents” are thugs. Look at all of the examples we have seen of their actions. They show no compassion at all for those that they grab off the streets, leaving children alone, without parents.

(I made an error, her child is a boy. I corrected it. )

Also thank god that she didn't hit someone else and kill or injure them when she crashed. THAT'S would have been on the ICE agent.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

What? I'm having trouble following you, EaB.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

I'm still on the woman in Minnesota who was killed and had three kids. What am I missing?

EaB's avatar

Joseph, I was answering the earlier post above that said that the ICE shooter’s family should know no peace for the rest of their lives.

Him? Absolutely!

We don’t know anything about his family so I feel we shouldn’t be judging them until all the facts are revealed about him, the monster who created this moral and criminal disaster. Families nowadays are so divided in their beliefs so we should wait and see if they’re in league with him. Then feel free to express your wishes if they were like minded to his ideals.

Yes. Renee was widowed in 2023 and the child is from that union but thank goodness the child still has a parent right now. I read early on an interview of her wife who sat on a nearby curb clutching their dog who said she didn’t know what she was going to do, that they had a 6 year old in school…and the blood. This is the person draped over and holding Renee sobbing in videos after the car had hit the pole. And yes, she is a first hand witness who said they had only stopped to video ICE. I can only think her shock, privacy protection, safety from nut jobs, and protection against ICE (who might try to arrest her as “complicit” in some way because they have labeled their victim Renee as a terrorist) is why the circumstances of her presence and existence is not generally known. Can you imagine Minnesotan locals (mayor) setting the trap for ICE lies by keeping the main eyewitness under protection and quiet until she can spring the truth on the murderer in a court?

Bella's avatar

I'm sorry. I didn't know about her wife being there. I read so many news articles that are not consistent, including the name of her mother (2 different names). He does have a grandfather who spends time with the little boy. He said that he's the only man in his grandson's Iife. I didn't watch the video because I can't handle that. Thank you for all the info. So heartbreaking. I really hate this entire administration. They are evil.

No apologies necessary. The reporter on site could have misunderstood too. 😢 we’re all very sad and angry. And it’s probably a good thing for you not to tattoo those images on your brain. I already have all the regrets. I knew Alito’s mother who exposed the corruption to me during the 80’s (which came to pass just as she told me it would), and tRump owes me money from back then too. Thank goodness I was warned away from him and his crowd when I used to go to NY. I knew Forbes Sr (who was generous unlike his tight son who even tried to have his gay father committed to get the $). I did some protesting when I was young and I was also beat up (before Rodney King or videos, but I won all my cases and the largest settlement of its kind to that date in that state). I have all this corruption and the inside of the beehive in my neurons already. Bedminster (which is a town between Oldwick and Peapack-Gladstone/Bernardsville where now he owns that golf course) was one of my stomping grounds. All these things being perpetrated on all of us are disillusioning, very real, and have been going on for decades. My heart breaks anew for poor Renee. I can barely handle what her last moments must have been like for her when they murdered her and stole her life.

Sadly, she may become a target.

I hope not with my whole heart. That mayor should be providing her and the kid(s) with meaningful protection who won’t look the other way or cave to feds.

I read that she had three kids.

I read that elsewhere too.

My guess they haven’t turned him over yet is because they are trying to hide him. They know he will be tried for murder and the Republicans don’t want that optic. Anybody know someone who has access to facial recognition? That’s about the fastest way to find him unless someone knows him and thinks he is a POS. A Trump POS belongs in the trash heap of history.

I don't know anyone else I will pay my state taxes but will not fund the murder of my fellow citizens nor will I fund the murder or attack on our NATO Allie's. I will also not line the Trump regimes pockets so I'm getting them done but I won't file. The money not that much sure but it's going into an account and when Trump is gone I'll catch up with the IRS. I'm done with this bullshit.
