Let's not forget the unforgettable pictures of people with polio living in iron lungs. The most awful picture I saw was of a hospital wall where iron lungs were imbedded like security boxes in a bank vault. The occupants were children! By all means, let's go back to those good old days. If I lived in Florida and had school aged children, I'd connect with other parents and put together a home schooling network. Aren't school districts funded by the number of students they have registered? Hit the bottom lines and things might change.

Anyone around an infected child can pass the illness onto others before they become ill. Those past epidemics created the development of Public Health Departments AND vaccines. As a polio survivor, I would not wish that on anyone. I was vaccinated for it but there was an issue with the vaccine that year and I contracted polio as a two year old. I am 67 now and still have a few managed issues with it. I am so upset about this. These kids are the future!
I'm 84 so I remember those polio days very clearly. We must be allowed to get vaccines if we want them. Just because others are willing to risk going without them, vaccines must still be available on demand.
To leave the future generations without access to life saving inoculations is unconscionable. Polio can have devastating effects ! For many it’s the gift that keeps on giving. I was fortunate but so many were not. I do remember the onset. I remember the high fever and I remember losing both gross and fine motor skills. I remember being dragged to doctors in Boston and New York. Most of all I remember my parents being terrified.

So they curtail vaccines and many many children snd families and people shopping in malls and visitors to the state and convention goers and people jn airports get exposed to and catch many now uncommon diseases which had been little seen in the past several decades due to our robust vaccination programs. At the same time, money has been slashed from Medicaid leaving vulnerable populations without insurance. This eventually affects Medicare as well and as we know there are many millions of older living people in Florida. Hospitals depend on Medicaid funding for a chunk of their support so they are strapped; some may close altogether. Since people will not be able to afford insurance they will use Emergency rooms instead of doctors, and preventative medicine will be hard to find, putting increasing pressure on hospitals which are already understaffed. Waiting times increase —germs spread into hospitals as well. Nurses and doctors leave the profession or choose to work elsewhere because they become burnt out. State funds get depleted to try to stop outbreaks snd handle uninsured people. People increasingly go into medical bankruptcy. Schools empty. Churches empty. Great scenario, Florida. You become somewhere to avoid at all costs as your idiocy gets spread to all 50 States through travel. Thanks a lot. Don’t expect that the government will bail you out—they are trying to spend / invest as little money as possible and seemingly have little regard for human life. Unless it is in utero.

My aunt has been saying she regrets getting her kid vaccinated and I couldn't get her to understand that most vaccines have years (sometimes decades) of research proving their usefulness. I worked in the hospital and we had a polio patient who lived there for many years!
He was overseas in his younger life & wasn’t vaccinated so when the family returned to the US, he had contracted polio.
As a result, he was paralyzed from the neck down, could not move any of his extremities & was on a ventilator for the rest of his life.
He was dependent on others for his TOTAL care: feeding, washing, dressing, tracheostomy care, etc.
Think about that-a TOTALLY PREVENTABLE situation reduced to a patient TOTALLY DEPENDENT on others!
