Now, let’s get to the news:
The trade agreement with China is no longer in effect. According to Trump, China has broken the terms of the deal with the U.S. It’s unclear whether there was even a deal in place beforehand.
Republicans in Florida begin having buyer’s remorse for voting for Donald Trump after ICE raided a construction site, detaining more than 100 migrants in the process. Jake Cowan, one of the managers/owners of the construction site wrote that Trump’s raids “will absolutely kill the economy in construction.”
Two federal court rulings have struck down President Trump's tariffs on imports, dealing a major blow to his trade agenda. Democratic governors, including California's Gavin Newsom, celebrated the decision, with Newsom joking, “It’s raining tacos,” in reference to a Wall Street acronym mocking Trump's inconsistent tariff policies.
Jake Tapper’s CNN show, The Lead, has hit its lowest ratings in ten years, averaging only 525,000 viewers last month. The drop comes as Tapper heavily promoted his new book, with the show losing about 25% of its audience compared to the same time last year.
A new federal hiring plan from the Office of Personnel Management will require job applicants to write essays about their favorite Trump administration policies and how they would help implement them. The initiative eliminates demographic data tracking and equity-focused hiring, instead emphasizing patriotism, adherence to “founding principles,” and recruitment from faith-based institutions.
A 2-year-old U.S. citizen was deported to Brazil along with her undocumented parents, leaving her caught in a legal and emotional crisis. Now in a country where she holds no citizenship, the toddler—born in Florida—faces a difficult choice: stay in Brazil without legal rights or return to the U.S. without her parents to access basic services like healthcare and education.
Donald Trump has nominated 29-year-old Paul Ingrassia to lead the Office of Special Counsel. Ingrassia is a former far-right podcast host and 2020 election denier who previously shared an article advocating for martial law to keep Trump in power after his election loss.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed an undocumented migrant threatened to assassinate Donald Trump, sharing the letter and suspect’s photo online. However, investigators now believe the man, Ramon Morales Reyes, was framed, and the threat was not credible—possibly fabricated to get him deported before testifying in an unrelated criminal case.
A new study found that 22 out of 23 beers tested contained PFAS, or "forever chemicals," raising health concerns about contamination in one of the world’s most popular drinks. Researchers linked the presence of these toxic compounds to the local water sources used in brewing, with some levels exceeding recommended drinking water limits. While the study isn’t meant to discourage beer consumption, it aims to help brewers and policymakers make safer, more informed choices.
Bernard Kerik, former NYPD commissioner during the 9/11 attacks and later a convicted felon pardoned for tax fraud, has died at 69 after a private illness. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed his passing, while Rudy Giuliani, who had a decades-long friendship with Kerik, paid an emotional tribute, calling him “like my brother.”
See you this evening.
