Here’s the news of the day:
Donald Trump is again defending his decision to “send in the troops” to Los Angeles stating that if he failed to do so“that once beautiful and great city would be burning to the ground right now.” While there has been evidence of isolated violent incidents, the majority of the protests on the ground have largely been peaceful, with local and state officials rejecting the notion that the federal government needed to send in any federal resources.
According to CNN reporting, the damage from the protests has been extremely isolated. As CNN notes, the damage has been limited to “not a sliver just of Los Angeles, it’s really a sliver of downtown. Much of the rest of the city is functioning as per normal.”
Overnight, Donald Trump sent in another 2,000 national guardsmen along with 700 Marines that have been temporarily mobilized to Los Angeles.
The LAPD has said that the federal government has not formally notified the agency of the arrival of the Marines, noting that the mobilization will pose “a significant logistical and operational challenge”.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing back on Trump’s decision to send in the Marines stating that Marines are “not political pawns,” calling the Trump administration’s deployment a “blatant abuse of power.”
Donald Trump will address troops at Fort Bragg today amid the decision to send in Marines to Los Angeles.
Overnight, protests sprung up in cities across the country including in New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
Pete Hegseth will facing significant grilling on Capitol Hill today as he appears before lawmakers for the first time since mobilizing 700 Marines.
A CNN reporter was briefly detained overnight while covering the protests in Los Angeles. You can hear him saying “I am being detained” on camera.
The founder of Latinas for Trump, Ileana Garcia, a Republican State Senator from Florida is now slamming the Trump Administration for targeting children in foster care to meet their deportation quotas.
Republican Senator Josh Hawley will soon introduce legislation that could raise federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. This legislation will have significant opposition among those in his own party.

Greta Thunberg is safe and in France. She just arrived this morning according to the Associated Press, after the Freedom Flotilla she was on was seized by Israeli Navy. The Israeli government later deported her to France, and she arrived moments ago.
According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. government agencies tracked foreign nationals coming to Elon Musk’s properties out of concerns that individuals may have influence over Musk. The investigation did not proceed to criminal charges, but several agencies, including the FBI, were briefed on it.
At least nine people were murdered at a school shooting in Austria overnight.
Today is election day in New Jersey as voters head to the polls to pick the respective parties’ nominees.
Attorney General Pam Bondi’s brother lost his race to be the next leader of the D.C. Bar, losing by over 70% of the vote.
