Good morning. After a long night, I woke up to MAGA Republicans flooding Twitter with calls for my arrest—one account with over 300,000 followers even demanded I be jailed for life, blaming me for the Los Angeles protests and accusing me of federal crimes.
They’re furious because I’m exposing the truth about what’s happening in L.A. and across the country—truth many in the media are too afraid to report. I won’t back down. If you support this work, please subscribe today.
With that, here’s the news:
President Donald Trump issued a presidential directive sending 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to break up protests sparked by immigration raids, according to a statement from the White House last night. Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the move, calling it “deliberately provocative” and cautioned that it would likely make the situation worse.
Early today, Trump announced plans to prohibit protesters from wearing masks following two days of unrest in Los Angeles. “MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???” he wrote on Truth Social. Meanwhile, ICE agents are still permitted to wear masks.
Meanwhile, Mayor Karen Bass said that National Guard troops had not yet arrived at the time Trump made that Truth Social post.
Trump is scheduled to meet with top officials from his administration today at Camp David, the presidential retreat located in Maryland.
California Governor Gavin Newsom called the idea of sending U.S. Marines into the state “deranged” after the defense secretary suggested it as a possible response. “The Secretary of Defense is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens. This is deranged behavior,” Newsom posted on X.
Earlier, Pete Hegseth—Donald Trump’s defense secretary—had floated the option of deploying Marines in response to the protests sparked by ICE raids across the Democrat-led state.
Representative Nanette Barragán commented on Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles County, saying, “We’ve been told to get ready for 30 days of enforcement.”
Senator Markwayne Mullin criticized protesters for carrying a foreign flag, calling it “absolutely insane” and claiming they were not just peaceful demonstrators but “illegals.” When host Dana Bash pointed out that carrying a flag is not illegal, Mullin responded that doing so while attacking law enforcement made the situation “pretty bad.”
Trump has warned Elon Musk of “very serious consequences” if he decides to support the Democrats. The president said he’s “too busy doing other things” to try to mend his relationship with the former ally.
Iran has extended its ban on dog-walking, citing concerns over “public order, safety, and health.” Several cities have reportedly enforced the restriction in recent days, mirroring a 2019 directive issued by police in Tehran.
A bird flu outbreak has killed 90% of the chickens at a major U.S. egg farm, forcing the facility to shut down operations.
A salmonella outbreak linked to recalled eggs has sickened 79 people across seven states, with 21 hospitalized, according to the CDC. The August Egg Company recalled 1.7 million dozen potentially contaminated eggs sold under various brands at major retailers like Walmart, Safeway, and Food 4 Less.
Russia says its troops have entered Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time, a move that could strain Kyiv’s already stretched defenses. While Ukraine hasn’t confirmed the advance and the extent remains unclear, the development comes as peace talks remain stalled and Russian forces make slow gains elsewhere.
See you this evening.
