He took ideas from the bench all the way through the system to get it through CDC certification and into the public's bodies. He has more than 50 publications in refereed scientific journals. He's appalled by what is happening now and at who is in charge of our national health. He worked on many corona viruses during his career (not Covid19 because it didn't exist then)and he knows what can happen when the next pandemic comes along - and it will come. We are not prepared!
Stephen, Unfortunately understanding the world around us can be intimidating! So many activities are complex and interrelated with a variety of factors. I constantly say that a significant reason we are in this situation is because of a lack of good education. If you are not subjected to teachers who require critical thinking or offer in-depth learning about complex topics, people just go for the simple answers and follow leaders who offer shallow explanations to the news of the day. It is a sad situation.
There has been a 50 year long campaign to weaken the American Education System coming largely from the religious right. We are reaping what they have sown.
I absolutely agree with your assessment of a lack of good education. I believe Republicans are trying to dummy down education so that only the best and brightest rise to the top. This will help maintain the wealth disparity. Keep the lower class in its place so that they have workers they only have to pay minimum wage so they can get wealthier and wealthier. I see it happening here in bright red OH every year as the education budget keeps getting cut, except for charter schools which are now getting 1 Billion a year, including religious schools.
