My daughter is 37 days sober. She is a joy to be with again. We are spending Mother’s Day together with her boys. Thank you Lord!🙏🩷

Happy 1st Mother’s Day to your wife! And happy day to all of us who have not had children, but we offer “mother”ing in other very meaningful ways! 💖

So many appreciate all the mothering from caring people like you 🫶🏻 You make the world better! ☀️

Thank you! Happy Day to you, too!

so true! our daughter is adopted and I always think of her biological mother with generous thanks on Mother's day for the very special gift she entrusted us with. I'm sure while she was alive, our child was on her mind this day as well. Hopefully we have given our child the life her mom wanted for her. No greater gift! We have been blessed.

What a beautiful reflection. Thank you for sharing this! How lucky your daughter is to be so loved.

I had spinal surgery 3 years ago and was not assured of walking again.I’ve continued PT, other movement practices and swimming beyond what was medically recommended, and in this past month began to walk up and down stairs without using a bannister or facing sideways! And I’m back at my favorite dance class! Every improvement is liberating!

Wow! This is great news. Thanks for sharing with us.

so very happy for you. What a feat! Keep up the exercise of all kinds so you don't have a set back! But, it's also okay to take a brief pause occasionally, but then right back to it. My mom had several strokes, and as she got older and weaker, would get physical therapy. she would do her exercises awhile. then let up. soon she would be back in PT. You have to stick to it and I personally know that's not always easy. I'm lucky to have a personal trainer who helps me not only physically, but mentally, and keeps me wanting to continue going. walking has been correlated with best health outcomes. I think i saw a brief blurb in either one of Aarons podcasts today, or it may have been Robert Hubbell. keep up the god work. And mother or not, YOU made someone a mother, so Happy Mother's Day to you as well!

Happy Mother's Day Mrs. P. ❤️

Treasure every moment. Enjoy your day and your family today and always.

I too have never followed news as much as I have since finding your fact based straight forward news Aaron.

Yay for Good news Sunday reminds me of Charles Kuralt reporting back in the 70's.

And thank you for not forgetting the Survivors.

I would like to see all you independents (hawk, you, AMV, etc.) get together. I can’t afford all the different subscriptions but want to support you all.

There’s more to this good comment than just the affordability topic of indie journalism…

Indie journalism is on a great trajectory to impact corporate, big media, however, society is still not hearing opposing viewpoints during discussions about political policies or topics that we-the-people need to weigh-in on.

The Fairness Doctrine is likely not coming back legislatively any time soon, but that doesn’t mean society can’t create a similar intended result, which was always to allow people to hear opposing viewpoints and empower them with information that challenges them to think deeper and raise empathy.

The predecessors to the Fairness Doctrine were created just as radio technology was emerging because leaders knew back then how dangerous information over the public airwaves can be if it did not have objective safeguards (they’d be flabbergasted today at cable ‘news’, mobile ‘news’ alerts, social media, AI, etc.).

indie journalists need to create a strictly moderated forum/platform where they share cited information during debates (no talking over one another like Scott Jennings and others). Without these recurring discussions, society is not addressing a leading threat to democracy - silo’d, partisan views that result in casting votes for people like trump…

Fundamentally, Aaron would probably be the first to state he approaches his work with as much objectivity as possible, which suggests indie journalists are providing news without political bias. With this chaotic administration it is easier to see right vs. wrong, but when we do return to a greater sense of reasonable politics, we will need to break down the silo’d barriers of right, left, and even center by providing people with this type of recurring forum.

@Aaron - it’s an opportunity for you to lead a historic change further.

S. A. Linden's avatar

There are other professional journalists out there who follow the rules of their craft, but you have to find them. Aaron provides a great model because he has such a wide audience, thanks to the Substack prototype.

It's a good idea to thank a journalist wherever you read/see them, because they rarely get the appreciation they should have. Instead of flamboyance and attention-seeking, they follow the rules that they were taught.

Earthling's avatar

yeah, I’m not suggesting it doesn’t happen at all, but calling attention to how many still tune into **only** cable news, local affiliate news, and their other partisan sources.

Then, there’s the person mentioned in Aaron’s post who was so apathetic she couldn’t see the importance of voting in 2024.

Indie journalists organizing recurring forums with opposing elected officials about ongoing Congressional work will break down more of that apathy and partisan fog. Ineffective representatives will be voted out by the People more frequently.

Imagine a world where:

1. It becomes political suicide for a Congressional member to NOT attend one of these indie forums.

2. Subscribers get to weigh in online with surveys during the online forum, essentially influencing disapproval or approval of parts of debatable Bills. And, even why some Bills are written with too much included to begin with.

There is technology and creative means to use so the power of the People can be wielded again.

S. A. Linden's avatar

Yes. And it will never by like it was before, because these are different times. But we need to bring back some dignity and professionalism to journalism. I for one cannot stand to hear people argue. If they cannot have a civil discussion about something, I turn it off. You can have a really charged conversation about something, yet follow some of the rules that classic debates cultivate in detail.

People who are given that opportunity can calm down and still can get their point across. Social media has done too much to ruin respectful, yet pungent dialogue. And if one finds that "boring," too bad. You live in a democracy and have responsibilities.

BMAMI's avatar

yes, no talking over each other! When that happens, I turn off the TV or change the channel. I don't like how Scott Jennings tries to justify his thoughts re rumpy and talking over people, but like you said...'and others'. they all get doing it at times; it becomes so chaotic I cannot stand it. But I also blame the host who should cut them right off and not allow it. I always say at debates, they ought to immediately turn off the mics when one's time is up, mid sentence or not. It bugs me when they just want to say one more thing and go on and on, or butt in on others. I think they did this with rumpus and Kamala once, and it was better.

I miss the days when News, like sports, weather, nature, business and agriculture were presented without partisan viewpoints or politics mixed in.

I was diagnosed with Leukemia this week but found out that it’s treatable. The first indication was quite gloomy but after a barrage of tests it was determined to be treatable. Not curable but treatable. I’m in my seventies and didn’t have a lot of hope. Guess this is the best “good news” I’ve had personally in quite a while. Happy Mother’s Day 🌸🩷🌸

Kathy Horn's avatar

Happy healing, Helen. You’ve got this!

Bela's avatar

That's a lot to take in. Hope you can now enjoy the beauty of spring. Happy Mother's Day to you, Helen.

Catherine Beck's avatar

You are strong in your own way, Helen. You are even able to share a diagnosis online with others here! That takes courage and a good spirit.

In case it may offer some encouragement, a friend of mine did manage to go into remission - twice, in 10 years - after being diagnosed with a particular cancer. She did undergo all the standard treatments...and also ate masses of organic greens every day, usually in a concentrated form. The darn tumours throughout her body shrank and shrank, then disappeared. Twice.

Warmest hugs to you. I will hold you in my heart as you look for hope wherever it may be found.

Thank you for all of these uplifting stories on Mother's Day. This is not an easy day for those of us who are bereaved Moms. I had my son for 31 years until an accident ripped him from my life. Every year I search for this type of content. I appreciate your reporting on every other day as well. Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Kathy Horn's avatar

Karen, I’m so sorry for your loss. Mother’s Day must be so challenging for you. I feel a stab in my heart when I’m bombarded with Mother’s Day advertising because I lost my mom decades ago and I’m not a mom. But I can’t even imagine the pain of losing a child. 😢💔

Karen Marie's avatar

Thank you for your kindness. A warm hug from me to you.🫂
