Realizing this Pro democracy tech groups have been working to change what we are using in Germany and other countries. Here there is a countrywide Digital Independence Day, on the first Sunday of every month. Then, people can attend workshops that teach how to use alternatives to big data gathering Big Tech. As a member of Indivisible Abroad I am on the Economic Resistance committee, we are working together with democratic tech groups to develop a campaign to get people switched to tech alternatives to these Tech businesses. This is not a boycott, but a disinvestment.

I just saw a report today about how many Americans have cancelled their summer vacations due to the increase in gas and the cost of utilities and food. Also saw another report that big ticket items like washing machines/dryers, stoves, refrigerators etc are flatlining and decreasing.
I still cannot believe that they think that people's credit cards are maxed out bc they are buying items of pleasure. They are maxed out for utilities, food etc. They do not live in the real world.
Wow! I was aaare of the cancellation of summer travel but not the appliances get. I figured it was coming. I knew in September 2025 about the utility gas and electric prices that went up last December so I was a bit prepared but still surprised when I got my first bill that doubled.
At first I was surprised when I read it, but then I figured that yes, this was bound to happen. If families cannot afford basic needs, they will put off big ticket items unless absolutely necessary. I had already read a report in 2025 that said car sales were bottoming out bc people just could not afford a new car of the insurance for it. This is all on trump and the repugnicans.
Absolutely concerning the cars and a lot of repossessions because folks lost their jobs. So without the typical income they were making unemployment barely pays enough for a families monthly groceries. Home foreclosures are up also and rates are low so those that have job income its a good time to buy but with all the uncertainties of the future a lot of folks are afraid more than ever to purchase a home. Seniors are using their retirement money to pay for exorbitant healthcare costs. Truly sad times right now for us Americans. I dread the future for my grandkids especially the one I have going to college in two years who will have a hard time finding a job probably and will still be living at home after graduation. It’s going to take a long time for the country to repair the economy, create decent paying jobs and restore education oversight for all of our children to thrive in school. I may just home school my grandchildren and give them the quality education I received as a child.

Although I did not have children, I helped two of my sisters raise their children and so I am very attached to them and now I have great nephews and nieces and I feel as you do. I want them to have the democracy that I grew up in.
