Pressure grows on Schumer to step aside as Democratic leader, Indivisible launches massive primary campaign against institutional Democrats, and Senate will vote to reopen government tonight
You are not correct. Jeffries gave a political answer to a question by stating that the democrats stay united. Behind the screens he curses the "writer of strongly worded letters".
If we flip the house and senate in 2026 we will need uncompromising leaders to put that power to use in stopping trump. Schumer has shown time and time again he will capitulate to trump. Get him out.
He didn't capitulate this time. He voted no former Senator John Tester said that unlike the House, Senators are much more independent of thought and deliberation. Another pundit said "Controlling the Senate Caucus is is like trying to herd cats!" I think the proper thing to do is make sure that those individual Senators that voted for this, get primaried. Senator Maggie Hasson from New Hampshire is up for re-election. She was one of the yes votes! If she loses her primary, maybe that will teach everyone a lesson!
You would think the topic of conversation would be that every single Dem voted for Senator Baldwin's amendment to extend the affordable care act subsidies today and that every single republican voted "no" and then the GOP stood around laughing and joking as if it was nothing.
If anyone should be blamed right now, it should be Trump, Thune, Johnson, and the GOP.
I do not agree with this move today, but dividing Dems (and now primarying Dems) is how the GOP always win - every time.
AL Gore had a 3rd party challenger because he was not considered "liberal enough" and lost. Hillary had 3rd party challengers and lost. If one looked at what Hillary proposed it was very very progressive, but some decided neither she nor Gore were liberal enough and we got 8 years of Bush and then Trump. Bush and Trump do not help us make progress and now here we go again attacking our own.
Schumer and Jefferies and all the rest except for Manchin and Sinema all voted for Build Back better and always vote for the liberal agenda, so how are they "establishment"? How are they the enemy?
In addition, the current CR expires on Nov 21, in less than 2 weeks, so if those who passed this tonight did not pass it, Johnson would have simply passed a new CR in a couple of weeks in the House, probably for the whole year, and so, if the Dems fought on, there might not be food stamps again or paychecks for many months to come because the GOP do not care and there would be no end in sight.
Did you ever think there might be a reason?
By passing this, they get another short deadline in Jan where we can once again shutdown government, if need be, and food stamps would be protected and guaranteed along with other things passed here. We will be in a better position to fight where people are not going hungry.
Honestly I simply think the Dems are positioning themselves for a better fight with less harm to the public.
This puts the Dems in a better position where the GOP can't starve the public to get concessions if the Dems need to do another shutdown.
I really wish that people might consider that there was probably a reason the Dems did this and that they are all on our team and have always voted for liberal policies. They are not the enemy, the GOP is.
I bet they have a plan related to all of this, as well.
Thanks, I thought I might become public enemy #2 right behind the so-called "establishment." I would imagine there are NOT a lot of single moms on here who remember getting down to their last dollar.
I was working several jobs and I had to decide if I was going to buy a single apple for myself for my only meal at lunch during a 10 hr day, some generic advil for the pain of being on my feet endlessly, or some toothpaste for my kid when I got home because we ran out. I got my kid the dollar toothpaste and did not eat and endured the pain.
That is what it is like for people on food stamps, as well, only one can't even buy OTC medicine or toothpaste with them. These people have no wiggle room for even a single day.
People who have the "luxury" and I mean LUXURY of talking about holding out longer and primarying those who are not "ideologically pure" enough are typically well-to-do and do not know how others live. They rally around a grand idea, and do not focus on getting things done in the real world that would really help real people and actually get little accomplished as a result. They talk about "burning it all down" and building something better from the ashes, while they enjoy living in fireproof homes and sip martinis. Guess who rose from the ashes they created last time? Trump.
I remember. I am 80. Cut coupons ,got only what we needed. Only bought Sunday paper because it had coupons and with a Master's Degree and 20 yrs teaching in CT. I was earning $20,000 dollars
Yes, I hear you. I remember scolding some of my fellow Dems for using the words “trailer trash” and asked, “Why is discrimination against the poor still socially acceptable among so many in our ranks when we are supposed to be champions for, and the ones willing to help, the poor and lift them up.” I then said I knew many teachers and people who worked for the school system who lived in this type of more affordable housing, including myself, and they thought I must be lying and that it could not possibly be true. The fact that they were educators though should not have been necessary to point out that no one is “trash” and certainly not because they are simply poor.
Another shutdown showdown in January would also keep the healthcare issue at top of mind closer to the primaries, and hopefully hurt the Repugnicans more than the Dems.
Well.written. Do not completely agree. I live in NH where those who joined Repugs are not up for re-election. Sadly ,in my opinion, Shaheen's daughter who is running for office disagrees with her mother( politely ) but mom's choice to be part of the Crazy8 will definitely impact the daughter's chances of winning
I think they did this because the SCOTUS ruling on Trump being able to deny SNAP was due out today, It seems Jackson was able to simply buy them a couple of days and that this was an emergency. My guess is that the conservatives were going to side with Trump and then starvation would have been used as leverage. So, the Dems got SNAP funded for the year in this deal to remove this threat.
Stop it already. I know we just want to be mad at everyone and flail in every direction, but Ignorance on our side is unhelpful. Jeffries has zero to do with this vote and has condemned it. He's HOUSE leader, and he's a great one. His caucus sticks together, from Maxine Dexter and Summer Lee on the progressive end to Henry Cuellar on the conservative end.
Before I condemn Schumer I want verified information from leaks inside the Caucus. Unverified Conspiracy Theories are so Trumpian! My Senator Gary Peters is retiring and he voted no. Let's not have a bloodbath here at this point! Also my other Senator Elissa Slotkin just got elected in 2024 She didn't vote for it either. They both have strong ties to leadership. If your theory is correct, why aren't they among the yes votes?
None of those 8 are on the docket for reelection in 2026. 2 of them are retiring, the rest are up in either 2028 or 2030. They are, in that way, all safe.
I see a lot of people on our side just flailing in every direction. I'm disappointed, but Im holding my fire until I see what actually happened and what the result is.
It still looks like the democratic-about what direction to go are still clueless . The current system doesn’t work. We have to operate differently. The support has to be for the people not for the individual candidates.
My Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is co-sponsoring a bill, when the time is right to introduce Medicare for All according to her newsletter a month ago! By the way, she is a rich old white woman that works harder than the Energizer Bunny for us, her constituents! Don't judge politicians by race, wealth, or age, but by their performance in their job, their effectiveness.
Shaheen (rich old lady retiring) was on diff news outlets saying she & sone others ‘planned’ it but kept senior leadership informed all the way. That rich old man Schumer knew all about and didn’t stop it proving even more that he’s not a leader. He must go. We’ve been long past the pinky swear with evil lying Repugs for a few decades. WE all see it but they refuse to calling them ‘friends’. My friends could only betray me 1-2 times before I stopped trusting anything they said.
Because they only needed 8. It is completely obvious that either Chuck arranged it or Chuck failed to unite Senate Democrats. Either way he failed and needs to go.
I will absolutely support primary candidates other than those who turned on us again! Democrats not in congress have been fighting all over the country! Schumer and Jeffries must go or I’m out! In the meantime I will not contribute another cent to the Democratic party but will consider individual donations to dems running who I believe deserve my support.
The DNC is very busy building out Campaign Structure and Networks right now and trying to expand into the Red South. It would be foolish to starve it of funds, and cripple it before the next election! The only way to stop the sociopathic Project 2025 is by gaining the Majority in Congress, then putting forward a Progressive Affordability Platform for 2028. Trump is a psychopathic President! He is ready to kill if he is willing to take food and medicine away. Democrats are not in a position to get much of anything from him until we have the upper hand. It is that simple! At least we got food till January 30th. I'm pretty darn sure that is the same conclusion that Senators were reaching.
You may well be right about this, but I am done being used by a Democratic Party who will sell me out as soon as they have my vote. Speaker Jeffries cannot even articulate a a reason that I should vote for democrats. No plan, no plan to have a plan except for our so-called leaders to stay in power. I’m out!
Neither of those senators have been stellar. I was expecting both of them to cave so this is the first ‘finally, they’re kinda listening’ moment, but not by much. Slotkin’s early voting and comments were my I’m done moment. I won’t be supporting democrats again.
I think in this case following the IPac money had nothing to do with it. Following the SNAP Money had everything to do with it. I was watching MSNBC for a little while the other day, and saw Senator Mark Warner go white as a sheet listening to a single mother crying because she had nothing left to feed her son! I agree that with the Repuglicans and Definitely Trump it is 100% follow the money.
I also think that we need to think that the experienced Democratic leadership has a strategy plan for this next funding deadline to try to get funding for healthcare included in the budget. Look! Instead of lashing out at our own Democratic Party and leadership, we need to put all of our pennies and energy into making sure we take the House and Senate in 2026,so we can impeach and block these fascists with their Project 2025.Look, the Democrats can't beat a sociopath on much of anything, in the minority, because a sociopath doesn't care who or how many DIE, in winning more power. Face it, yes last Tuesday night proved Americans all over the Country have buyers remorse, but this emotional blow that we all are experiencing, shouldn't be fixed by bloodletting on ourselves, but used to strategize on what to do next on Jan. 30th!
I tried, but apparently can't get any information without donating or buying information. As a low income Senior on SNAP benefits, I don't have the funds to do either! However, I am still donating time and Money to Postcards To Voters.
Thanks, Julie. So, i cannot donate directly to the candidate of my choice? I’ll have to try it. I’m not willing to go through any 3rd party any more and I will not support the Democratic Party!
He wanted to not be the bad guy. Its time for you to retire and leave so that a stronger leader can take your place. Someone who will fight for the American People. This administration is a joke.
Schumer must go. Now! Unless you want your fundraising to dry up, he must go. One more inexcusable cave for nothing! The democratic “leadership” at all levels is unacceptable. I am with indivisible and if you don’t realize that indivisible is so much more competent than the current Dem “leadership” then you are in La La land.
I don't agree. He was the one who caved the last time, in spite of a ton of pushback. I don't see why he wouldn't have caved this time if that's what he wanted to do. I would need some evidence of that. He has never given a hint of being in favor of anything trump has done. Not to say it's not time for him to go. It is. But to accuse him of being a trumper because he doesn't have the stomach for prolonged fighting says he's old not a traitor.
But five of the eight ARE up for reelection though...Four in 2026 and one (Kaine) in 2028. There are only three who are retiring...Shaheen, Durbin & King (Indy).
The more I read and listen to trusted sources, particularly lengthy and compelling explanations made by Monique Pressley talking at length with Don Lemon this morning, the more I understand that the rewritten Senate bill MAY accomplish some necessary things. Heather Cox Richardson is speaking about this as I type these words.
I see both sides of the argument. Time will tell how it unfolds.
I don't agree with the subterfuge of the 8. The optics were terrible and demoralizing to those of us, who last week were finally feeling the wind was at our back.
Go to opensecrets.org your eyes will pop at the amounts received by any and all of the Senators who’ve voted no. They each gave received hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars from AIPAC and other self-serving PACS, when these spineless politicians surrendered and helped destroy their constituents lives of their constituents… their neighbors, their communities, those who helped each of these Senators to win their elections and reelections for years. The voters are NOT Stupid. Get arid of Schumer and while we’re at it get rid of Jeffries…. He receives millions from AIPAC, too… like a Schumer.
I know Schumer takes AIPAC, the WORST (and this is not against Jewish people, but rather against supporters of the war criminal Netanyahu & his cabinet) I don’t know about the others, yet.
It takes 10 sec to look up the AIPAC list. Every state has one or more politician that has taken AIPAC money. Please take the time to goggle and review the entire list. It’s organized by state.
Thanks so much. I am embarrassed to say I was unaware of the impact and actions this org has taken until this year, so I grateful to have this information.
ALL of them. All but Fetterman got money from American Airlines PAC. Fetterman does get money from Israel. Most likely the others do as well, I just haven't found everything on the others yet.
American brothers and sisters I appeal to you as an Afghan veteran. I put my entire family at risk because I served with U.S. military forces in Afghanistan, as the U.S. government had promised us support. Now I have been living for four years in a neighboring country to Afghanistan, but the U.S. government has paid no attention to us, and that promise has not been fulfilled. If you know of any. way solution, please help and assist me. best regards to all of you
Thank you so much for bringing this up, sir. Maybe a few people at Indivisible could stop yelling for a few minutes and organize a group to do something about this shameful situation.
Our government has treated you and others like you shamefully. I am so disappointed as an American. I wish I could offer you hope but this will likely not change under a Trump administration. I am not well enough to be an activist but I pray for you and wish you all the best. Salaam.
I signed up at the Indivisible website to try to get involved in my area. Out with this old guard that is only interested in selling us out. We need new people. It's our time for progressives to take over the dem party. Schumer goes (doesn't matter that he voted no, he knew damned well how it would play out - they didn't go rogue - he knew.)
Schumer organized the vote and made sure people retiring or not up for reelection voted yes while he voted no. He set it all up imo!
Jeffries need a to be fired - it is time for him to go!!
Jeffries is in the House and he has held his caucus Firm! Do you mean Schumer?
No Jeffries was on with Aaron Parnas earlier and stated that he backs Schumer 100%! So I would agree it time for Jeffries to go too!
You are not correct. Jeffries gave a political answer to a question by stating that the democrats stay united. Behind the screens he curses the "writer of strongly worded letters".
That's a pretty flimsy reason to want a strong, effective and well-trained leader to go and leave out party flailing.
Someone's confused by this shitshow it would appear!
I think it's because Jeffries came out today and said he supports Schumer as Senate minority leader.
You would think the topic of conversation would be that every single Dem voted for Senator Baldwin's amendment to extend the affordable care act subsidies today and that every single republican voted "no" and then the GOP stood around laughing and joking as if it was nothing.

Another smooger, we have enuf
They only needed 8 people To fall on the sword

Yes. Peters is my senator also. I had called him TWICE, imploring him to vote “NO.” He came through.
I called and left a message that as a SNAP beneficiary, please vote no. Called and emailed Senator Slotkin, too! They both listened to us!
Schumer needs to step down.
Because they only needed 8. It is completely obvious that either Chuck arranged it or Chuck failed to unite Senate Democrats. Either way he failed and needs to go.
I’m hearing that this a capitulation from Rick Wilson, the Lincoln Project, and other thoughtful political analysts.
Good points
There is something in it for the 8 . Schumer is not a trustworthy period
I will absolutely support primary candidates other than those who turned on us again! Democrats not in congress have been fighting all over the country! Schumer and Jeffries must go or I’m out! I believe it all goes into the same Act Blue pot
Only if you donate online. Individual Candidates still send out donation letters with their individual campaign committee.
They needed 8 votes. Anything beyond that is superfluous.
Neither of those senators have been stellar. I was expecting both of them to cave so this is the first ‘finally, they’re kinda listening’ moment, but not by much. Slotkin’s early voting and comments were my I’m done moment. I won’t be supporting democrats again.

Yep. I concur. It seems pretty obvious.
100%
100 percent
There is only one of two things this turn of events could mean:
1. Schumer orchestrated a lie to the American people.
2. Schumer lost control of Senate Democrats.
Neither is a good look.
That’s what I think too! OMG!! I believe we are right!
And Kelly is actually just rationalizing FOR Schumer!
I agree
yup. not good.
Chuck has to go. He’s the architect of this. None of those 8 Dems had a 2026 election to worry about and one is retiring.
💯🎯
I don't agree. He was the one who caved the last time, in spite of a ton of pushback. I don't see why he wouldn't have caved this time if that's what he wanted to do. The 8 Senators who caved aren't up for re election and had their own agenda, there have been rumblings about this for a couple of weeks.
There are seven (7) Democrats and Angus King who is an Independent. Two (2) are retiring. Durbin and Shaheen.
2 retiring, 1 traitor dem, rest no reelection till 28&30🤬🤬🤬
Bring in Warren to lead the Democrats!
Two are retiring: Jean Shaheen (D-New Hampshire) and Dick Durbin (D-Illinois).
I’m so sick of Chuck Schumer
We had all the momentum we needed to win this battle. He has let our party down time after time. It’s disgusting .
Yes! I guess we need new blood! Who has the backbone to save our democracy?!?!?!
He's an undercover trump supporter. He's a traitor!!
I would need some evidence of that. He has never given a hint of being in favor of anything trump has done. Not to say it's not time for him to go. It is. But to accuse him of being a trumper because he doesn't have the stomach for prolonged fighting says he's old not a traitor.
No: everyone online demanding that Schumer resign is closet MAGA. It reveals a limited view of what is happening. All this division is helping Trump.
….and he k!lled the momentum to keep fighting from Authoritarianism.
he is such a putz!
Get rid of him!
we need new blood!
Time to replace him. He is not a leader!
100% agree …. New blood needed! A.O.C. for leadership
Aoc can replace Jeffries but not Chuck, she has to be a senator to do that.
The problem is that none of the 8 are up for reelection and those who would have been are retiring. Very carefully calculated, I'd say...:(
Oh yes, very carefully calculated. Jeanne Shaheen said outright: the collaborators were in touch with leadership from the get-go.
But five of the eight ARE up for reelection though...Four in 2026 and one (Kaine) in 2028. There are only three who are retiring...Shaheen, Durbin & King (Indy).
Kaine is up in 2030. He's always been an appeaser. Voted with Republicans this year even when his vote was not needed! Same with Mark Warner.
None are up for re-election in '26. Only ’28 and '30.
The more I read and listen to trusted sources, particularly lengthy and compelling explanations made by Monique Pressley talking at length with Don Lemon this morning, the more I understand that the rewritten Senate bill MAY accomplish some necessary things. I don't agree with the subterfuge of the 8. The optics were terrible and demoralizing to those of us, who last week were finally feeling the wind was at our back.
I hadn't read that until today. You're right. He's up for second term in '26.
Schumer needs to go... I never cared for him but this was the last straw.... we need a leader who will fight for us.
How many of them have taken PAC money? Just as a curious question.
And if we follow that money, do we find Isreal?
Go to opensecrets.org your eyes will pop at the amounts received by any and all of the Senators who’ve voted no. They each gave received hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars from AIPAC and other self-serving PACS, when these spineless politicians surrendered and helped destroy their constituents lives of their constituents… their neighbors, their communities, those who helped each of these Senators to win their elections and reelections for years. The voters are NOT Stupid. Get arid of Schumer and while we’re at it get rid of Jeffries…. He receives millions from AIPAC, too… like a Schumer.
YES! I dislike Jeffries just as much as I do Schumer! Get rid of both those useless corporate Dems!
Right!!
I know Schumer takes AIPAC, the WORST (and this is not against Jewish people, but rather against supporters of the war criminal Netanyahu & his cabinet) I don’t know about the others, yet.
Schiff does, I'm pretty sure (he had his picture taken with Netanyahu) and Padilla refuses to criticize genocide in Gaza.
Fetterman too.
American Airlines PAC Money
for about 4 or 5 of them.
masto, durbin, hassan, kaine, king, rosen, shaheen
per www.open secrets.org/orgs/
There is a website with a tracker for that info
ALL of them. All but Fetterman got money from American Airlines PAC. Fetterman does get money from Israel. Most likely the others do as well, I just haven't found everything on the others yet.
Maybe I’m crazy but if that was the deal and Mike Johnson says he won’t commit to a vote, shouldn’t the 8 traitors vote no?
Exactly my question!
you would think
Johnson said that After they voted no.

Salaam.
🙏🙏🙏 thank you so much
Guys, we should get this soldier home!! He should not be left out there alone without some kind of support!!
Jeffries can also kick rocks. Ugh.
I disagree. I think he's led his caucus well and has disagreed with Schumer's reticence to use his limited power.
YES. My sentiments as well.
I don’t mind Jeffries, but I think we need someone sharper and quicker, just generally someone younger with more energy and fire to them.
Jeffries is a mustard sandwich, he doesn’t seem to make the picnic any better.
what a pile of horseshit. no offence to horseshit.
He’s no Nancy‼️👠
EXACTLY, Virginia!
Well, he was groomed by Nancy and she and her clique pretty much installed him where he is. He's too corporate.
And, frankly, Jeffries can go too.
Thank you! This is when the strong step forward. It doesn't need to be everyone, but support will be needed!
