Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump’s administration has faced numerous legal challenges, with federal judges stepping in to block several of the administration’s most controversial decisions. The executive branch, under Trump’s leadership, has often pushed the boundaries of presidential power through controversial policies and executive orders.
Now, the judiciary is stepping in to act the as a safeguard to ensure that these actions adhered to the Constitution and the rule of law. In the past several weeks, federal judges have intervened in several cases, blocking Trump Administration actions in the process. By holding the Trump administration accountable, the judiciary helped preserve democratic principles, protect individual rights, and maintain the system of checks and balances that is foundational to the U.S. government. Without judicial oversight, unchecked executive actions could have led to significant violations of civil rights and liberties.
Below, I will do a summary breaking down several of the judicial decisions that have come thus far during the Trump Administration and where things stand.
