Good morning. On this Memorial Day, I want to take a moment to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation. Their sacrifice is the reason we can speak freely, stand firm, and keep going—even when the cost is high.
This morning, I woke up to a wave of hate—dozens of messages threatening my life and even calling for crowdfunding efforts to target my home and endanger my family. This isn’t just online noise. It’s real, and it’s dangerous.
Now more than ever, I need your support. If you value the work I do and believe in standing up against intimidation, please consider subscribing today. Your support makes it possible to keep telling the truth—and to do it without backing down.
Now, let’s get to the news:
Donald Trump posted his Memorial Day message this morning without any mention of the fallen soldiers. The Commander in Chief of the United States refused to mention fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. If President Biden posted this, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson would be calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. I refuse to play into their double standards. This message from Donald Trump is a complete abdication of his duties as President.
A group identified as the white nationalist hate group Patriot Front marched through downtown Kansas City on Saturday, waving Confederate flags and carrying shields while wearing masks and matching uniforms. Police estimate around 100 people participated, noting they were from out of town and did not alert authorities beforehand. City and museum officials condemned the group’s presence, reaffirming Kansas City’s commitment to inclusion and rejecting hate in all forms.
Trump sharply criticized Vladimir Putin on Sunday, calling him “absolutely CRAZY” following Russia’s largest aerial assault yet in its war on Ukraine. Trump said Putin is killing civilians without reason and added, “I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin,” despite previously touting a good relationship with him.
While visiting Vietnam, French President Emmanuel Macron commented on Russia’s ongoing attacks, saying he believes Donald Trump is beginning to see through Vladimir Putin’s lies about Ukraine. Macron added that he hopes Trump’s anger will lead to concrete action, possibly including sanctions alongside the EU.
Cuban rapper El Funky, known for his pro-Trump stance, says he’s facing deportation and has been given 30 days to leave the U.S. His immigration status is now uncertain, putting his future in the country at risk.
Trump criticized Harvard again, demanding the names and nationalities of its foreign students and accusing the university of lacking transparency while receiving federal funding. His remarks followed a DHS effort to limit Harvard’s ability to enroll international students, despite the fact that these students typically pay full tuition and make up about 27% of the student body.
Republican Senator Ron Johnson says the Senate has enough votes to block Trump’s “big beautiful bill” unless Trump commits to serious spending cuts and deficit reduction. Johnson’s stance signals growing GOP resistance over fiscal concerns.
A Republican-backed spending bill includes a measure that would limit judges' ability to hold people in contempt of court, which could protect Trump officials from being forced to comply with certain court orders.
An Israeli airstrike early Monday killed dozens, including people sheltering in a school, according to local health officials. Gaza’s civil defense reports the death toll has risen to 33, the Associated Press confirms.
Prime Minister Carney has invited King Charles to open Canada’s 45th Parliament—an unusual gesture that many view as a subtle message directed at Trump.
Speaker Johnson claims that President Trump is likely the most transparent leader in history, saying he has nothing to hide.
In a meeting with South Africa’s president, Trump played a video he said showed widespread killings of white South Africans. In reality, the footage came from the Democratic Republic of Congo and was unrelated to South Africa.
Trump’s FEMA has rejected North Carolina’s request to uphold a Biden-era promise to cover 100% of the debris removal costs from Hurricane Helene.
See you this evening.
