Pennsylvania Democrats scored a major political victory tonight, reclaiming control of the state House of Representatives and setting their sights on flipping a key Senate seat deep in Republican territory.

Right now, these updates are coming just for me, but if you want to support my work and help grow this team, become a paid subscriber today. Let’s redefine independent media and make sure the truth always gets out:

In a critical special election, Democrat Dan Goughnour emerged victorious in House District 35, breaking the chamber’s 101-101 deadlock and restoring the Democrats’ majority. Goughnour's win marks a pivotal shift in the balance of power in Harrisburg, signaling renewed momentum for Democratic priorities in the Keystone State.

The contest in HD-35, a Pittsburgh-area district, drew intense attention from both parties, with implications that extended far beyond a single seat. The Democratic win effectively hands the gavel back to House Speaker Joanna McClinton, empowering Democrats to resume their legislative agenda and serve as a stronger check on the Republican-controlled state Senate.

But the House wasn’t the only chamber seeing movement.

In Senate District 36, an area that Donald Trump carried by 15 points in 2024, Democrat James Malone has won as well in race that wasn’t even on the radar for many pundits. Malone won the seat by less than one point.
