RECLAIMING MIAMI 👏👏👏👏

Irene Reese-Short's avatar

I hope we can reclaim Texas!

Robert Illes's avatar

It just requires a level playing field, then Texas turns purple. Dems MUST BE VILIGANT about voter suppression before during and after elections.

Vickie's avatar

I love Jasmine, but I think James Talrico, Democrat has a better chance of winning

JoAnn Duffy's avatar

I just think it’s a shame that two Dem stars are in the position of running against each other.

Kolokia's avatar

I wish they both could replace the two clowns we have right NOW!

Fraser's avatar

Well the Pastor will likely move he said to another redistricted area and challenge a Republican again!

Brad Wolbert's avatar

Having spent a few years in Texas and having worked phones for Beto, I can’t see any way Crockett wins a statewide race there. Talarico might be able to persuade enough crossovers, though. Not because he’s white (well, maybe it helps a little) but because he is measured and he meets those persuadable R voters where they are. A win is a win and this one would be sweet indeed.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Different time, different race. Beto is a white man and didn't win. I don't see any special quality in Talarico that gives him the edge on Beto. Beto spoke fluent Spanish; as far as I know Talarico doesn't. And one thing that would give me pause is Talarico worked for Scab for America (Teach For America), one of many sneaky efforts to sabotage public education. Could Talarico have more appeal than Crockett to Texas' vast number of brown and black voters and women who right now are probably pissed off about the redistricting scam? I wonder.

Jessie S.'s avatar

He’s a pastor. MAGA is an evangelical cult. Being able to talk legit Bible is huge.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

No it isn't. MAGA isn't "Christian" in any normal sense. Their beliefs aren't Bible-based, they are Trump based. The idea that we can somehow talk to them in their language is false. MAGAs aren't getable for us. We need to turn our OUR voters, not squander time and effort trying to convert a few MAGAs.

Fraser's avatar

I think Talerico is gaining popularity-I have seen him on a lot of substack interviews and he is deadly in Cingress calling out people-he has a great video against Christian nationalism, and he is a Christian!!

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Is he in Congress now? I thought he was still in the Texas legislature. Also, gaining comments on Substack isn't the same as gaining voter interest on the ground. I think it's too easy for us political obsessives to not realize that what we know isn't very widely known.

Vickie's avatar

In Texas this is important...There are real Christians of all ethnicities who vote!

Clark Walker's avatar

You may be right about that, Brad, although Jasmine wouldn't have a problem garnering the black vote and she is more secular than James yet a Mainstream Christian voice in Congress would be a nice change from the Christin Nationalist voices currently resounding in DC right now.

Punkette's avatar

Oh, I don’t know, Brad. I grew up in Houston and attended uni in Austin. Both solidly Blue cities, even back then (1970s/80s). If we really Get Out The Vote in the huge Blue metro areas (Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio), and in smaller Blue strongholds, Crockett has a good chance of winning. My money’s on her.

Irene Reese-Short's avatar

Of course white men always win this is AmeriKKKa

Porter's avatar

I think we should give Texas back to Mexico.

Kolokia's avatar

I live here and if I could get away from the Nazi America regime that way I'd be very happy hablar espanol. ;)

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Agree. It would make Paxton's and Abbott's heads explode.

Porter's avatar

I'm not at all certain that there's anything inside those heads to explode.

Vickie's avatar

I am from Texas and I don't understand the Haters...There are a lot of good people, just like in every other RED state

Kyle Michel Sullivan's avatar

That's not what supporting him is about. Texas is too racist and misogynistic to elect her, and what's important is getting the Senate seat. Talarico knows how to talk to Republican idiots in a way that will get through to many of them. With Crockett, all those people will see is she's black and female, doesn't matter how qualified she is. It's absurd...but that's Texas, today.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Talarico is an unknown. Also keep in mind who Democrats are. We give up at the gate because we fail to recognize that our base is women and people of color, and we often grovel too much and spend too many resources catering to a white male base that wouldn't vote for any Democrat. We need to be less defeatist. Crockett is exactly what I hear Democrats saying over and over we need. Last winter, a questioner at my congresswoman's town hall actually asked her why she couldn't be more like Jasmine Crockett. (She responded "Jasmine Crockett is Jasmine Crockett. Shontel Brown is Shontel Brown." Shontel just has a different personality but she has been really fierce lately too!)

A Walker's avatar

WELL SAID!!! 💙💙💙

Jim Fraser's avatar

From wikipedia:

Barbara Charline Jordan (February 21, 1936 – January 17, 1996) was an American lawyer, educator,[1] and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first African American elected to the Texas Senate since Reconstruction,[2] the first southern African-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives,[3][4] and one of the first two African Americans elected to the U.S. House from the former Confederacy since 1901

A Walker's avatar

She was an amazing pioneer!, also she served as Governor of The State of Texas for 1 day

Kolokia's avatar

Jasmin brought up a great point - Texas is over 60% brown. If she can get out those voters... that could overpower the racists.

A Walker's avatar

So true and less than 30% vote, that’s why we haven’t won yet… 💙💙💙

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Yes, that is what I think some of us defeatists overlook when we sigh and insist we need to run a white male candidate or we can't win. The issue that needs to be addressed is why those voters have been so disengaged and how to engage them. Maybe THEY need a candidate that reflects them!

A Walker's avatar

Tallarico is too timid and these republicans will eat him for breakfast!, time out for pacifying them! IT’S TIME TO PUT THE BOOTS ON THE GROUND!!! 💙💙💙

terri's avatar

You are absolutely right Irene! There are WAY too many white men in government...go JC!! Let's make good trouble ;)

Jesse Leigh's avatar

It’s not about race or gender at all on this. I like Jasmine a lot, but his values and character are what we need fighting for us! He also does not support Israel and gets financial support from the voters. He’s been working hard to gain the support and now all of a sudden at the last minute she chooses to run against him after spending a lot of time out of TX and in DC? Fishy.

Kolokia's avatar

I'm afraid that in vast swatches of Texas it is about race and gender, sadly - but that actually might work in her favor?

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Israel is not an issue that will impact a Texas election, and we need to stop over-focusing on it. And depending on HOW he "doesn't support Israel" this could be a horrible negative.

A Walker's avatar

Not this time! Jasmine Crockett is a female version of Barack Obama

Kathleen M. Eisenhauer's avatar

They are both dynamic representatives for their constituents!!

Ernesto Fontana's avatar

Negative. Totally disagree. Jasmine all the way by a landslide.

Kolokia's avatar

If she can get out brown voters (over 60% of our population), I think she's right, she could win it for us. She would have to really motivate people that normally don't vote in Texas - but maybe she could!

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I don't think anyone can say at this point who has a "better chance of winning." Talarico has so little name recognition that he has his work cut out for him. Crockett has high recognition and Republicans especially hate her because Trump hates her, but then, they automatically hate all Democrats, no matter how mild.

Connie Nichols's avatar

I hope democrats will really support Jasmine Crockett. She is so intelligent, honest and does her homework. Lots of experience too. Best Wishes for her victory!

3PackMom's avatar

I like Jasmine Crockett a lot.

Lisa Newman's avatar

It will never happen, Texas always disappoints.

Irene Reese-Short's avatar

Never thought there’d be a Black man as President.

Charles Bastille's avatar

Jasmine Crockett is amazing, but she will bring out the worst in Texas Republicans, so the question will be, will that help her or hurt her with centrist voters? I kind of think it will help her, because Repukes will be vicious, and that will turn people off.

Irene Reese-Short's avatar

Bring out the worst… not sure it can get any worse.

Charles Bastille's avatar

That's for sure. But she can handle anything they throw at her.

Clarke Shaw's avatar

I hope you are right. I am rooting for Jasmine.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I don't agree. MAGAs hate all Democrats equally so we shouldn't be assessing our candidates by what they think.

Emma G's avatar

But have you seen a woman as president? Hillary Clinton did well in the primary here (beat Obama - I worked on that campaign); Kamala couldn't even get elected despite her experience as VP. I would love to be proven wrong, but as a suburban mom here in Houston, I do not see this as a winning strategy. At least Talarico is the grandson of a Baptist preacher. I thought we could have a woman too, but I am still gun shy after Wendy Davis.

Kolokia's avatar

Are you in a white neighborhood? She wouldn't necessarily win those but if she wins the over 60% brown and black population, our neighborhoods won't matter. ;)

Emma G's avatar

Well, define "neighborhood" - they keep shifting us around because we're purple. I'm near Pearland (south of Houston), whites/asian are 50% (many Asians actually voted Trump, which you wouldn't expect but it's true). I think she can definitely win the primary. Then she becomes Wendy Davis, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris - the numbers start trending down, DNC drops funding and ultimately she loses 65-35%. I've seen this movie multiple times. I do hope Trump has pissed off the Latino community enough that they stop voting for him, that I think could be the difference in Houston. But I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Charles Bastille's avatar

That's how to think positively!

Connie Nichols's avatar

Do Texans want to be aligned with Putin & Russia? Do 60% of brown and black people want to be targeted by ICE eventually after they are done in blue states? Things will just keep getting worse if y'all keep voting for Republicans.

angel's avatar

Thats what they said about Miami!

Bren's avatar

Another great interview! Thanks

A Walker's avatar

YES WE WILL!!! 💙💙💙

Julie/ MA's avatar

CROCKET WIIL BE IN THE SENATE…. SHE IS THE ONE!! 💯💙🙏

Julie/ MA's avatar

WHOOHOOO! LET'S GO BLUE!! 💯💙……. THEY CHEATED IN TN!! ( 30,000) VOTES NOT COUNTED💙🙏.

Porter's avatar

Maybe the Cubans, always stuck in the idea that only Republicans could help them win back their homes and their island of Cuba, finally realized that the GOP ICE thugs just care about the color of their skin. I'll bet they've been harassed by ICE.

Adam Stoler's avatar

yup spot on

go fuck up spanish speakers in South Florida THEN ask them to vote for you?

you must have Trump Dementia syndrome

Fraser's avatar

Oh for sure-with Cruz and Rubio hiding with the thugs!

dee Romero's avatar

Oklahoma should be next.

Kevin Ellmer's avatar

And hopefully the Latino vote! WOO HOO!

Becky's avatar

Maybe there’s hope for FL

Becky's avatar

I moved ( on purpose) to FL from Indiana 6 years ago. I hate this state! I’m a nurse and volunteer with foster kids-don’t even get me started on Ron DeAsshole and foster care!!

Clarke Shaw's avatar

I still call him DeathSantis

Donna L's avatar

Clarke - me too!

Fraser's avatar

Perfect-from Covid?

Clarke Shaw's avatar

Yeah, that's when I started

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

One of my good friends who lived in Florida for ten years called me last December and said "Want to have dinner tonight? I'm in Cleveland house hunting." she has since moved back. Another friend moved back here about five years ago and has since moved her 90-something mother back up north too.

Becky's avatar

I’d go back but I did the butt freezing cold for a looooong time. Besides-I think my reasonable and empathetic brain and heart are better used in the misguided state that is Florida.

Fraser's avatar

Good for them!!

JoAnn Duffy's avatar

The only creature worse than him as governor would be his wife.

Jennivieve's avatar

RN too! Managed records for 250 foster care kids here in SWFL & advised with the CMS board in the past. I don't think I could hold it together under it. Please remember self-care & be careful who you talk to.

Becky's avatar

Agreed-I’ve seen soooi many case mgrs leave-they can’t get anything done and are paid pennies for what they do

Annette Magyar's avatar

I love James Talarico, but I think Jasmine can fight legally and has more experience. James is young and can run again. Good luck Jasmine.

angel's avatar

VOTE THEM ALL OUT IN NUMBERS!!

joni lavin's avatar

In new york i was once misdiagnosed nu*s and couple yrs later got thrown out of a foster care homes needed type seminar cause I was supposedly nu*s so how dare I try to survive that way? The cruelest effect of such branding is hiring discrimination and associated poverty. way 2 go the system knows..and it happened in the late eighties way before current blatant excesses

Jennivieve's avatar

I'm quite familiar with that

SamSerif73's avatar

As a Floridian, I certainly hope so!

TB's avatar

Don't go too far 😆😆

Becky's avatar

Don’t know what u mean????

monique's avatar

Janette's avatar

This is spectacular news!!

Angela Tokarski's avatar

👍💙🇺🇸👏

Oubliette's avatar

Good going Florida!! Keep waking up down there.

T Mac's avatar

Republicans are wiping their buttocks with the Latino community, so this should not be a surprise.

DisplayL's avatar

Maybe they they got wised up. Foolish people.

Olimpia Carbone's avatar

Cubans in Miami helped Trump get elected. Then he started deporting them. They're pissed and fed up with Trump.

Michelle Boydston's avatar

Woo Hoo 🙌🏻 YES!!! Good job Florida!! Excellent work Aaron! Thank you

Keith Alberts's avatar

It’s no wonder. People are wising up to the lack of care republicans have for the people of the United States.

Barbara B's avatar

Moral clarity. Now there’s a thought.

Angela Tokarski's avatar

Democrats are for the people!

Republicans are for themselves!

Dee Joy's avatar

And their billionaire donors. Yuck! Abolish the republicon party. Govt is FOR the people NOT these rich disgusting lowlives who want to kill anyone who isn't rich. Despicable demons!!

Tara Batin's avatar

I really like Talarico and Crockett.

teresafbrooks's avatar

Yes, I like both James Talarico and Jasmine Crockett. Mid like them to be the two Senators representing TX.

Clark Walker's avatar

Me, too but I'm pulling for Talarico.

shelspenc's avatar

Are they running for the same seat tho?. 🫤
