1) Yevgeny Prigozhin and Other Wagner Fighters Killed
Yevgeny Prigozhin and other top Wagner fighters have been confirmed dead after a plane crash in Russia. According to initial reports, Prigozhin was traveling to Moscow from Africa when the plane was traveling on crashed. Sources have confirmed that Prigozhin and his top lieutenant, along with at least eight other Wagner commanders, have been killed. The Financial Times is reporting that the aircraft was taken down by a Russian anti-aircraft missile fired by the Russian military. Some in Russia are blaming the crash on a terrorist attack in an attempt to blame Ukraine in a false flag operation. Wagner, however, is placing the blame on Russia and its military and is vowing to retaliate. While it is unlikely that Wagner will successfully take the Kremlin in another march on Russia, it is likely that we may see increased tensions between Putin and the Wagner Group. This is a significant development, one that will only end in more bad news for Putin and the Kremlin.
2) Rudy Giuliani has been Booked, Trump is Next
Rudy Giuliani has turned himself into Georgia authorities after being indicted by a Fulton County grand jury on 13 charges relating to his actions to interfere with the election in Georgia in 2020. Giuliani agreed to a $150,000 consent bond and will be required to post 10% of that amount, or $15,000. Donald Trump is scheduled to appear at the Rice City jail tomorrow where he will be fingerprinted and booked. Mugshots have been taken of Giuliani, and we should receive those soon. Trump will also have his mugshot taken. This will then be released to the public. Meanwhile, Mark Meadows and another co-defendant have attempted to move this case to federal court, an argument swiftly rebuked by District Attorney Fani Willis. It remains to be seen what the next steps are in the Georgia case, but in any event, Donald Trump has until this Friday to turn himself in to Georgia authorities. Stay tuned for more.
3) South Carolina Upholds Abortion Ban
The South Carolina Supreme Court has upheld the state’s 6-week abortion ban. The law has exceptions to save the pregnant woman’s life and for fatal fetal anomalies, and has limited exceptions up to 12 weeks of pregnancy for victims of rape and incest. Doctors who knowingly violate this law could face prison time, fines, and would have their medical license revoked by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners. This latest abortion ban is one of the most restrictive laws in the nation and comes just one year after the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and gave the decision to regulate abortion rights back to the individual states.
4) India Makes Historic Moon Landing
India has become the fourth ever country to land a spacecraft on the moon. Chandrayaan-3, the spacecraft at issue, had a successful landing near the moon’s south pole. This successful landing comes as Russia attempted to do a similar mission, but lost control of its Luna-25 spacecraft after losing contact with the Russian Space Control Center. Congratulations to India on this major accomplishment!
