A Shock Poll Shows Democrats Leading in Trump +30 Race

A shock poll has Democrats up in a Trump +30 special election district, a devastating earthquake has struck Myanmar, Trump is warning automakers not to hike prices because of tariffs, and more

Good morning! Today is March 28th, and here’s your morning news rundown. Before I jump in—I want to say thank you. My work isn’t backed by billionaires or ad companies; it’s funded by you. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber today.

With that, here is all the news you missed:

  • A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Southeast Asia today, hitting Myanmar and Thailand hardest. In Myanmar, over 100 people have been killed, while schools across Thailand have shut down. The scene on the ground is one of total devastation.

  • Trump has warned U.S. automakers not to hike prices in response to new tariffs, according to the Wall Street Journal.

  • With a special election approaching, Democrat Josh Weil holds a narrow lead over Republican Randy Fine — 44% to 41% — in Florida’s 6th District, a deep-red area that backed Trump by more than 30 points.

  • Billionaire Elon Musk has awarded $1 million to a Wisconsin voter just days before a high-stakes state Supreme Court election, drawing comparisons to a lottery-style payout his PAC ran last year in key battleground states.

  • The White House says Trump has signed an executive order aimed at “restoring truth and sanity to American history.”

  • According to a YouGov poll, 74% of Americans — including 60% of Republicans — believe the Trump administration’s use of Signal to talk about military strikes is a serious issue.

  • Attorney General Pam Bondi says a probe into the Trump administration’s use of Signal is unlikely — despite a long track record of launching similar investigations, according to the AP.

  • Trump has issued a new executive order targeting another major law firm — this time WilmerHale, where former special counsel Robert Mueller once worked. The order calls for the firm to lose its security clearances, be restricted from entering federal buildings, and have its clients cut off from government contracts.

  • The Trump administration is moving to shut down U.S.-funded programs that fight child labor, forced labor, and other human rights abuses in dozens of countries worldwide — and plans to do it immediately.

  • Democratic Senators Reed, Shaheen, King (I), Peters, and Padilla are set to visit Guantanamo Bay tomorrow for an oversight trip, according to Semafor.

  • The Senate Foreign Relations Committee chair says the Trump White House is backing off Elise Stefanik’s nomination for U.N. Ambassador. Hakeem Jeffries pointed out that Trump won her district by 21 points in 2024, but pulled the nomination anyway — claiming Republicans are scared they’d lose the special election to fill her seat.

  • The EU is reportedly planning to scale back fines on Apple and Meta to avoid sparking tensions with the Trump administration, according to the Financial Times.

See you this evening!
